Yeah the last thing I want is an aggressive uncontrollable dog. The good thing is that it Blitz seems able to shrug these things off as they come along.
On the bright side I did get to see three HUGE Giant Schnauzers at the same park. They were about the same size as a middleweight rottie, and the lady was responsible to take all three of them out of sight as soon as she noticed Blitz.
Doggy Parks are good to enhance socailizing, but I really don't like training Ob at a DP, way too much distraction.
Ed you did seem to see too extreme dog owners one that doesn't know what he doing and a responcible dog owner 3 GS darn thats a hand full.
Blitz nerves seem to be intach he can blow off stupid stuff and keep training. Have you taken him to a Protection trainer and had him evaluated? Notice that some are like sciencetist (pencil and pad watching taking notes) and others seem to use country mojo. But both seem to come to the same conclusion.
When my GSD was about 9 months I had one ask me to bring him in the kitchen, the trainer must have did something to me behind my back (he didn't touch me) because as the dog entered the kitchen. The dog tried to get around me to get at him, and wouldn't stop. I had to send him back outside. This guy told me that reaction was good and that he had provoked it by doing something behind my back. He's a little sharp but workable.
Another guy came out with pencil and paper watched the dog from inside the house, we stepped out and he had me sit the dog and down him. Asked that I play a little fetch and retrieve. Told me he wanted to try something, he pushed me. Watched the dogs reaction which was to walk toward us with an erect body and check him out. We stepped back in and He stated he is a little sharp but workable.
I'd let a PP trainer check him out, it might save you some time and money. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> I'd start OB training now most trainers want sit, down, come, heel on leash and stay. Before they will start any bite work.
I've help with a 1 yr old Dobermann import that this lady had, if he had it, he lost it with all her babying and treating it like it was a toy poddle. He wouldn't respond to toy/ball, food or praise. He was big and strong but no inkling prey drive or protection traits. He hind behind her.
I'm having some trouble finding a reputable PP trainer in the Vancouver BC, Canada area. I'd like to have my boy evaluated ASAP, till then I'll stick to the articles and order a video to see if I can build up Blitz's prey drive.
Any help in terms of locating a trainer would be much appreciated.
