Thomas, thanks for saying "It is the breeder that matters".I agree with both you and stephan. In ref to many things..deeply. Registries are a farce..and political.Dogs/breeds have been placed upon the backburner...Marketabilty/money is the culture....in so many "Arenas"...ruining the promise of potential..to protect breeds/genetics.
I remember getting a dog that was registered with the worldwide kennel club, I asked the breeder what the deal was and she told me that the akc was just as big a farce as any other and she had given them enough money. She said that she hoped this one would do better. I loved that dog a great deal and the registry problem never cropped up. What a great dog she was!
Kristina, What are your plans for your pup ? What goals have you set for "Heidi" ? Are you interested in showing? There is absolutely nothing wrong with that area...nor any type of proceeding into any type of work area.Enjoy her and watch all that she shows you.Be a team with her.
Well, since you asked, Heidi cannot be shown because of her long coat. I figure my husband has his dog, I want mine. Since we know Hairy's line very well, we decided that that was the line we were going to stick with. Unfortunately, the breeder we got Hairy from wasn't breeding anymore so we began to surf the net to find it. Also, I wanted a longcoated female. It was tough trying to find what we were looking for but finally after months of searching, found Heidi at Timberline. It was well worth the wait. My dogs are family pets and totally spoiled, too.
Searching for our female was when we began to find out about other registries. After reading about Continental Kennel Club on its website, I was less than impressed and refused to look at any dog registered in that club. Though AKC may have its flaws, instinct tells me to stick with what I know.
no doubt it is good to go with what you know. The only thing to really watch out for in the other registries are "foundation" animals. These are ones where they do not know who the parents are (ALL breeds start out with foundation animals).
If you are buying a GSD and one of the parents is listed in the pedigree as a "foundation" you have to ask why they don't know who the parents were, the answer may be legitimate or it may not be.
kristina....could u post a picture of your new pup ..i would be interested in seeing a pictures of her...sounds like she going to be in a loving home...i love puppies just wish they didnt grow so fast...
just to clarify, no pictures in the general threads, just in the member bio section of the board. Otherwise, if you would like to share candid photos- keep it to email (or PM, if you know how to do it on the board, you can also do it via PM)
