As far as I'm concerned every dog should be crated while in a vehicle for proper safety to your dog, vehicle and self. As far as size is concerned I had a large crate in a two door neon with no problems. My old dog Rabiat Von Leerburg once ripped apart my Volkswagen and bit the hell out of my neck trying to get to a moving car until I learned this the hard way.
From personal experience, I highly recommend crating for dogs who cannot behave in the car. Can you not fold down the back seat of the wagon to make the cargo area bigger?
Unfortunately, even though the seat DOES fold down, it doesn't lie flat, so a crate will not fit, much less 2 crates. Since I have 2 large dogs that was what I was shooting for, but with the midwest barriers I have in essence created 2 crates, one in the cargo area, and then the backseat for the older dog. The puppy is the only one that really could benefit from being crated. The only reason I have the barrier between me and the other dog is so I don't have mud all over the car.
I would love to see the neon with the crate inside, not sure how you managed that. Although when I moved from NC to CT I did manage to get a 500 in the back seat of my Mazda Protege.... took a lot of crisco to do it, but it was possible.
Maybe I am looking at the wrong size crates. What size crates are you using for a full size GSD.... all the widths are fine, but it is the height issue. I bought a Subaru Outback wagon, but they are not as tall as they seem.
VanCamp, I think it's safe to say you are one funny SOB.
What are you trying to say Chuck? what do you think I'm funny? You think I'm joking around here? Is this a game to you?
