WOW! Thanks for all the great replies! I will most certainly start searching out all the events. Unfortunetly we do not have a 4-H club that caters to this need and I am frankly to busy to start one myself. My small town does not have its own K-9, they actually wished that they could just keep my male (before we sold him) in the back of the squad car just for intimidation purposes. I will have to look into another town that may offer a k-9 unit to do a ride along.
Howard, any info you can provide would be great!
Thanks so much to the rest of you as well. I homeschool this one and Latin is apart of it, so the bilingual studies is there...we just have to look forward to college and getting him exposed early in life then. Many thanks!

Tammy, the shelter here offers (I think) free obedience classes for dogs that are being fostered. When I have the extra time I will start fostering and training dogs to get more experience, and if the shelter in your area has something similar it might be a great idea for your son in the future. I wasn't allowed to even own a dog until I was 16, and then because I didn't know what I was doing I ended up with a show line fluffball. I would have loved to have been a dog trainer, but now I feel like I just don't have the talent for it.
I won't give you my opinion of Latin (also known as pointless torture around here <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> ).

I would be interested in hearing how some of you guys got yourselves into dog training and police work. Some of your situations may prove helpful for our family of 5 (and possibly more) boys.
As for Latin studies. I find the study of Latin to be wonderful since it is killing many birds with one stone. They are learning more grammer than they would with just plain old english as well as learning an appreciation of classic language. Also with the knowledge of Latin comes the ease of learning and transitioning into many other languages which has the foundation of Latin. My eldest son wants to become a Missouri Synod Lutheran Pastor which means Latin, Greek and Hebrew are what he will need to know in order to get through the Seminary in Fort Wayne.

I think you need to start off with your son around positive and experienced trainers who can nurture his goals. Most importantly the parents need to play a big role in this.
