This post is deteriorating by the minute. *rolls eyes*
Using Baton's logic, I can say that I haven't seen *every* mule alive, so I guess I can believe that one will eventually win the Kentucky Derby. Oddly, knowledgeable horse trainers would disagree with me - go figure.
Folks, this discussion isn't worth the typing. To discuss this with someone who has never even seen a SchH trial but is still able to make such a broad sweeping statement regarding the old argument of working dogs vs. American breed dogs just isn't worth the effort it takes to dispute. And I'm getting the feeling that some people look more for an argument than being educated regarding the realities of the working dog world.
The proof is at the trials - and if you don't observe them, you're at best guessing. The world has enough "armchair experts" already.

I like your description of possibility and probability. That totally makes sense. The analogy of sunrising for this instance (no offense) is ridiculous.

Robert,
Could you show me where I could find that info about sporting events online?
I don't want to argue anymore. I don't think the moderater is happy and he does not want this discussion to go on. I appreciatte you sharing your time to pass the info that you know.

Will,
I am not just looking for an argument, I am really looking to get educated about GSDs. I have a right to an oppinion, and I have a right to change my oppinion if I get convinced about something that I'm not.
I think you are right that proof is best obtained in the trials, in which I have not attended. (Thats not the case entirely here) No way I don't consider myself a profesional in dog behaviour. If I was I wouldn't have had this conversation. I was just using some common sense and quite some research that I'v done to back my oppinion that using the word "ALL" loses credibility to majority of the people outside this forum.
I understand you don't want this conversation to go on and I'm okay with it, so if you wish terminate it.
Thanks

You're hung up on a generalization.. ALL is a generalization in that there will always be exceptions (some more rare than others). Once you get over that, you're basic premise falls apart. Your original comment then defaults to the experts that are on this board. Their experience, which is considerable, ends the debate. Done is done.

Baton,
since you're the one with the opinion that an American breed GSD is capable of real work, here's an easy way to convince me:
Post the name or names of American bred GSD's ( let's say ten generations fully breed here in the United States ) that have earned a SchH III title. That's an easy task, I would think, not even looking for a regional, or even a trial winner - just one that achieved the title, period. Should be a piece of cake, if American Bred GSD's are capable of any type of work.
Have at it!

There are NO American bred GSDs on the SAR team I'm on. As VC said, "it's not hard to teach a dog SAR work" yet the few American GSDs that have attempted it on our team have failed to make the grade. As far as hundreds of other dogs...If I see one more SAR Golden with a red bandanna around its neck, I'm gonna use it to strangle the owner . Most, not all, SAR folks are, scuse me ladies, bored housewives that want to do something nice with their baby. Don't git me started on that one.

One of the things you need to consider is the only way to find the American shepherd or showline shepherd that could get the title is to go out and get it yourself. I can't imagine how many you would have to go thru to get the "one" dog to prove a point. I have a showline shepherd doing ringsport. He is not awesome unless you look at the fact that he goes down the field after the bad guy because I want him to. He doesn't have crazy drive to get him thru. I have to do a lot of stuff to keep him from getting bored and lazy. I saw his litter mates and they were below average at best. One brother was a fear biter, sister was put down for bad hips, the other brothers nice pets but really dulled out. When people want 1800 for a pup, this is why you go where you have at least a shot at getting a good working dog.
I am smarter than my dog, your just not. |

Its not that easy to go back 10 generations since the sport of SCH is not as popular as in Germany. I will do some more research but this is what I found so far from http://www.meyeracresgsd.com/BreedingProgram:
Trommel's Eros SCH II OFA Good
Ch Trommel's Ivan of Berlindale SCH II OFA Good Dark Sable
Ch Neumann's Jim SCH III FH III OFA Good Black
V Nores V Jagerstand SCH III FH IPO III OFA Good Dark Blk/Tan
They say that the Trommel Shepherds is the only American kennel whose champions have produced both champions and Schutzhund-titled progeny, generation after generation!
You can go ahead and visit their website at the address above.
