I am starting to wonder if we leave him out of the crate TOO MUCH and he thinks he "rules the roost"....is that possible? I know he is only a pup (12-13 weeks) but he does NOT listen. He does not respond to the "scruff shaking" (it only makes his drive stronger) and now he doesn't seem to respond to the lemon/water spray.
Could it be possible that we are leaving him out of the crate too much? He is out atleast 2-3 hours a day playing (whether it be outside or inside) and atleast 2 hours laying around with us (on the sofa, etc) while watching tv..although not he doesn't really "lay" anywhere for very long. LOL
My pup didn't respond to scruff shaking either. He thought it was playing. Because I was scared of hurting him I wasn't shaking quite enough. I squeezed his fur and shook just a little harder, and it make all the difference. After one good correction (enough to make him yelp for chewing on an extension cord) "NO" had a new meaning for him. After that, I could verbally correct him without shaking.
I also started teaching my pup "outside" and "come" at that age. It seemed that once he started learning commands, he started listening better. He got "Sit" at 11wks in about 15 mintues with one hot dog. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Have you taught him any commands yet?
Yes, he knows "sit" and "down"...we are working on "stay" but at 12 weeks I think it may be a bit much for him.
When I grab him by the scruff he cries but then it just seems to get him more fired up and he keeps coming after me. He certainly doesn't understand "NO" yet...or atleast he acts like he doesn't know it. I wish it was on one of the video's I bought (which I thought it would be). It's much easier to see someone do it then to try to do it the way someone's tells you, without showing you. All I know is I feel like I have grabbed him HARD, he cried and it didn't phase him (or keep him from coming back at me).
