I thought that the "funny looking dog" was a Mal crossed with a dobermann or rott..his color was tinged black and tan, his gait was bouncy like a dobbie or rott but his head was smaller and most rott crosses get the square head as a trait. So I figured a mal x dobbie? I loved the bi-color gsd that ran all around in the box search for fun before actually deciding he'd let his handler know it was box 5 three seconds before time was up! lol

Well I definatly would watch two hours of real dogs in real competition than some silly foo foo dog show or some motor heads going fast and turning left all evening. I wanted to email Animal Planet to let them know to put more shows like that on but can't seem to locate an email address for them.
I personally fear to much publicity for our dogs. The last thing we need is attention in this politically correct world. Plus, home owners insurance aren't really aware of the capabilities of the Belgian shepards as most don't even know what they are or are used for, likewise, neither are the damn thugs. Popularity and publicity has only served to kill awesome working breeds. Now as long as they keep showing GSD I'm all cool with it
In reference to the article search on this show. Why did they have the dogs retrieve the articles? With SAR, I train for a down and bark in order to preserve evidence. Was that SOP for the dogs to do the retrieve?
The overall champ of the competion was a Mal . 3rd year in a row . There are plenty of Mals along with other breeds there . I think this year there were only about 130 dogs there due to a hurrican wiping out the original host location in Florida and it having to be rescheduled . Usually there are between 150-180 dogs there .
The Article search can be a retrieve or a down at the article . Mine is passive and I know some of the dogs featured are passive(down at article) also .
Man did I learn alot . I'm enroute now to tell my guys they have fat , low drive dogs . Go figure I work with them all the time and see them do awesome things for real all the time and never noticed that . The badguys didn't either .
Guess I gotta watch TV to notice that .

I was entertained, I told at least 3 people to turn on animal planet when it came on, I had my DVR set to record it a week in advance - I love seeing GSD's do their thing. I don't have near as much experience as some (most) people on this board, but I recognize the involvement and dedication to get a dog to this level... if one of those dogs were chasing after me, I'd down/stay myself n hope someone screams OUT! Ofcourse... there's always that one that didn't wanna let go
The dual purpose dog that failed the article indication is a MalX. He had a bad case of kennel tail when we brought him overseas so it was removed by a vet.
He's about 90% Malinois and is linebred on G'Bibber. The rest of his pedigree is GSD and Groen. No Doberpunks or Rottenwhiners.
Just got back from telling 1 of my coworkers that was on the show that people were talking saying his dog was fat and didn't have much drive . He had the same reaction I did . He laughed his A%$ off .
1 of good things that came from this discussion is that I can now refer to this discussion , all the Vet Techs and others "in the know" who constantly tell us our working dogs are too skinny .
Jim Nash, who cares what someone said about your dogs? How do you even know what dogs he was talking about?
Another good question is who cares what you think about what someone said about your dogs. . .or the handler's response to what you told them someone said about their dogs . . .if it was even about their specific dog or not?
Where's the Icon for "don't stir the pot"?
It was good to see the work and the competition broadcast in a very positive light. I could care less about the Monday morning QB commentary. There was dicky for footage that showed the dog's working and how someone could make a comment on the quality of the dogs from what little film they showed is a stretch.
Which brings me to my point, the editing and coverage sucked donkey azz. Why couldn't they just cover more teams and done the coverage a bit more ESPN style. You know, so you could actually see the dogs working from the minute they step on the field to the minute they step off?
That was lame. Still it was a good thing for Joe Average to see. Always good to see working dogs show off for the public in a positive way. I did like the little tidbits they threw into the show about the dogs living with families and being good with kids. They're not monsters who eat people out of misplaced aggression, they're only trained to protect the good guys and our communities from the tyrany of evil men.
VanCamp stated ;
" I could care less about the Monday morning QB commentary. There was dicky for footage that showed the dog's working and how someone could make a comment on the quality of the dogs from what little film they showed is a stretch . "
That's part of the reason I thought those statements were so funny .
I wasn't looking for a fight I got a good laugh out of them and was trying to be funny also.
I know you don't care but I'm still think it's funny .
