O.K., Will, so how about this? The constitution protects the right to bear arms (as opposed to firearms), meaning weapons, and I suppose that can be interpreted however each is inclined. So for the sake of argument, let's say that a PPD can be considered a weapon, as I can't see why one couldn't/wouldn't be. Doesn't that then make PPD ownership a right as opposed to a privilege?
Jeff, I know ur arguing with Will but I'm going to butt in.
No right is absolute. I can't keep Bengal Tigers without satisfying various government regulations. I live in Redneckburg, I don't need a License for a hand gun but I do for a dog of any type. Ur comparing apples and oranges
Jeff,
Nope - the "Right to keep and bear arms" was meant to allow the common man to have the means to fight against a tyrannical dictatorship, if one ever arose. Dogs don't apply in this case. You're confusing the concept of self-defense against an individual threat versus the real basis of the Second Amendment ( discussed in depth in the federalist papers ) which is protection from the abuse of government, as are all the elements in the Bill of Rights.
Too much politics guys...this is gonna get locked........back to dogs....
I dont think there is a need for me to "open any history books". I understand that we have the "right" to have weapons. I think I learned that in 6th grade. As far as you being a ClassIII dealer and me owning a few ClassIIIs its not even the point.
I do not want more laws on guns. It sickens me to see what places like Chicago, DC, Cali and Newyork City has done to guns. But, Im all for gun control, background cheaks and finger printing when it come to buying a gun, it HAS saved lives. Maybe doning the same for buying a "evil" dog would help out too.
But, I will not post anymore on this topic. I do not want you to get all pissy and have to "lock" this topic. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Go out and do something for your country befor you tell people how it sould be.
Don't get me wrong, Will - I agree with the basis of your argument. And with your stance on pit bulls, their owners, etc. I'm just wondering if a clever attorney couldn't use a constitutional rights argument against BSL's, and I'd be interested to hear what some of the lawyers on the board would say.
Sorry my 21 years of Military service with a long list of awards and decorations isn't enough to have done for my country. I'll try harder in the future, ok?
David, I said I was not going to post anything in response to this last post you made. However, I find myself getting madder everytime I look at it. Most of your posts have been antagonistic in tone. I am pretty new to this discussion forum as well, but I think that you should "rein it in" a little, before you alienate the entire forum. As far as the comment about Will doing something for his country, you should not assume things that you have no first hand knowledge of. All of us know what tends to happen when you assume.
