One of our guys used it on a 1500 lb bull. Wierd how it can stop something like that but certain people can fight through it. Our new tazer policy, because of recent events, is so restrictive that it is darn near our deadly force level. I agree with Kevin, dont trust them. Get back to basics. Many cops rely on the tazer too much. Many use them instead of their firearm, which is foolish. The pitbull that attacked our PSD 2 months ago was tazed first. The 9mm round finally stopped him, although it didnt kill him (Use a bigger gun) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Its muscles seized up, it fell over on its side, and then got up and charged the fence. lol Or at least that's what the bull on the taser website that Adam was looking at a few weeks ago did.

This is far from true in a practical application. Even COPS TV show had a guy drive away from LEO's with two probes in him behind the wheel. We used it last week with two probes in and the guy just decided not to comply, six bean bags later and six deputies got cuffs on him.
Lets see what happens when we make that 1500 pound bull smoke crack all day. The failure proof devise only exists in the manufacturers literature.

Actually, with the newer tasers, you can't fight through them because instead of being a constant flow of electricity, it pulses.
Most of the officer I talk to that have a tazer say it is a talk and shot. It is the first level of force before OC spray. You tell someone to do what they are to do, they dont you use your first level, tazer. It has no lasting effects like OC or ASP. I also hink that it will end up getting some officers killed because they look at it as a deadly force situation and it is far from it.
Certainly this is how the tazer has been marketed. It seems to be undergoing some dramatic changes though....mostly as a result of 71 publicized deaths which involved the use of the tazer.
Many many depatments are rushing to rewrite the policies involving its use. In fact my own has prohibited the use of the contact tazing approach all together.
I may sound skeptical of the tazer, it has its uses and many times has been used well where I have been able to observe it. It can be a lifesaver for both LEO's and the suspect who is on the receiving end.
But it it no panacea.

Originally our tazer policy was liberal. Now because of the publicised deaths, it is level four. As far as I know, the cause of deaths of those 71 cannot be found as the tazers fault (as in shooting someone with a gun). It is usually someone who is polluted with drugs or alcohol, or when the subject falls. We have one armed robber who one of our officers foolishly tazed (instead of shooting) when he charged the officer with a boxcutter. The perp fell to the ground and busted his melon. He's still on life support as far as I know.
Afemale officer in Titusville florida tried to taze a crazy woman with a knife. It failed and the officer was fileted quite badly. A female civilian ride along got the officers gun and stopped the butcher in her tracks. One story for instance.
For those that use them in a crowd...our local hoodlums kick the wires when we taze one of theirs. At that point it turns into a real cluster.
