I get a lot of positive comments about my Golden Ret. I too like to show off some of his "tricks" He can balance a treat on his nose and will not take it until I say OK. He also does the K9 yo-yo, going down and then coming up to a sit repeatedly on command. He will also dance, give you a high five, a hug, catch his treat that is tossed to him, and shake hands among others. The kids in the neighborhood call him the magic dog. I am going to teach these same tricks and more to my GSD puppy after we do more OB work.

The standard stuff: paw wave, roll over ,dead bug, agility on the play ground equipment. up a ladder, down a slide. The best one is "find Brian" thats where my 4 yr old son hides behide one of the many trees and I give the command "Find Brian" he runs out, tracks and finds him, then he sits and barks. Kind of like the search the blinds exercise in Sch. there are a few more
Speaking of the wave - how do you get a "high" and enthusiastic wave? Abby's is drooping. We taught her shake with no verbal command then gradually backed our hands away until we weren't touching her, but giving a hand signal accompanied by the word "wave." I use tons of treats for trick training - but absolutely no enthusiasm for this trick.
Abby's reliable trick for impressing is to leap up onto our shoulders, or back - which as you can imagine was easily modified into a game of leap frog.
Thats' one of the first click and treat tricks thats taught. first you teach the foot raise until they get it high enough then go from there. or when you see them paw at something click and treat.
We Haven't heard from Will R yet. Come on Will, tell us one of your cute doggy tricks <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
LOL! I can't use a clicker EVER with Abby! Well - you know how messed up she was when we got her and how sensitive she is. The other dog we had at the same time was so sensitive that if you said "no" she would cry - tears down her face (We've had 3 dogs that cried like that) - anyway, we used a clicker instead of "no" because it was a constant noise - meaning it doesn't change when I'm frustrated.
So Abby and Sugar both don't like that click! In fact Sugar would run into her kennel and hide when she heard it! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
the yo-yo trick is my invention, it is kinda silly, but it makes the dog focus on me and is great practice. The treat trick on his nose is really cool because he will leave it there even when I leave the room. He will not take it unless "I" am the one to say OK. If the treat slides off of his nose he will not eat it with out my OK. Being a Golden Ret. he is also great at playing fetch.
