Quote:you can talk about your ring dogs being real
Hate to break it to ya, but to me a real dog is one that you can touch, but not scooby doo. I never said anything about "real"
Quote:we all know that any dog trained in the same circumstances over and over again will do the "work", no matter what game the handlers are calling work on that particular day.
This is such crappy mind pablum I want to vomit, In the real world, a lot of dogs cannot do the higher levels.....of any sport no matter how much repetition.
This isn't about this silly "real" nonsense that new people have stuck in their heads, it is about the reality of the difference in difficulty. I sucked at schutzhund, and I suck at Mondio, but I see a real difference in the level of difficulty. Try it sometime. It is a lot more fun at least. Besides, what do you learn doing the same silly thing over and over. Life is about learning new stuff.

I couldn't either. I tried another browser (instead of MS Explorer) and that worked. Then I found out that I was using an old version of Explorer and it needed to be updated.
I didn't see any real threat. The decoy was always running away or standing in one spot. Stick hits looked weak. If the decoy ran at the dog and put the heat on them that would be more impressive to me.
I have to agree with Scott W here. It's a sport! It's more than I do with my dog. Maybe more than he's capable of doing. Who knows! I've never had the opportunity to try. That's no reason to tear it down OR praise it. I enjoy watching most dogs sports, and have no reason or desire to tear ANY of them down. Even as hard as it is to admit, even, shudder, shudder, dog dancing takes a lot of skill to do correctly. Some people here trash talk schutzhund. So be it! I enjoy it. Would I do ASR or something else if it was avaliable? Possibly, but ALL the dog sports are only as good as each dog and handler.
Brad, how many FR dogs have you worked?? I say go ahead, put on the suit and see how impressed they are with your running or "stick hits" easy to be impressive with that sleeve/Training jacket on where you can't feel anything. So, go ahead and find out if you can even hit a dog that is biting the crap out of you in one of those thin suits those guys are wearing. I think you'll find those dogs don't find YOU impressive when they get to hurt back. Just something to think about.
I'm kind of leaning towards agreeing with Old earth dog Bob Scott. I'm still new to dog sports, but to me, every video or event I've seen looks overwhelmingly rigged in favor of the dog. This stuff might be good preparation for a dog that may need to fight a grown man one day (such as a PSD or PPD), but in the various dog sports, there is no real aggression from the decoy directed towards the dog. If the situation were a REAL one, and not just a sport, 90% of the dogs I've seen would severely injure the man they're attacking. But the dog would also likely be killed in the process if they were fighting with a grown man that felt his life was in danger. Don't get me wrong, I sincerely hope I never have to tangle with one of these dogs as I'm sure it would end with me in the hospital. I just think some people take this stuff out of context. It's not real and neither the dog or the decoy is actually fighting for their survival and at least IMHO, that has a HUGE bearing on the outcome. Just my 2 cents. I'm sure most of the people here probably think I'm nuts.
