dog started responding nicely. is heeling and sitting very well. i guess no one new romanian commands ????
Thomas,
I will contact a friend who is from Romania (speaks the language) and see if she knows some ob commands in that language.
(She breeds and trains dobes so should know what I'm asking for!)
anne thank you for all your help the dog was picked up today he will be working the streets with the winter haven pd. his new handler has decided to go with all german commands because we didnt get much reaction from the romanian ones. who knows mayby we were saying them wrong. i know the dog had ob training because he new all the hand signals as soon as we figured them out.one more thing its our first romanian dog he was definately real and was taken care of. had a great personality the will to work and the looks to go with it. i have to give my wife the credit she does the importing and always seems to find the good ones TOM
And Romanian has several different dialects so that could also be the issue.
Glad it's working out. (Maybe you could post a photo of him when you get him settled?)
If he knows hand signals it shouldn't be that difficult to attach a different command to the action. These working dogs are pretty smart...
My neighbor is housing a schutzhund trained dog until the dog's quarantine period is up prior to going overseas. This neighbor doesn't know much about dog training; when he took the dog to the vet he proudly told the staff the dog was "bilingual". And he is: the dog responds to all OB commands in both German and English!
