No, you don't wait. But if you happened to get a dog that was not tattooed by the breeder, chances are they will be up.
I typically do my pups at 7 weeks, but I have had some females with smaller ears that I waited a little longer to do. Nothing to do with standing. Many breeders do not do it at all for whatever reason, even breeders of working line dogs. The tattoo kit is a worthwhile investment in my personal opinion.
If you have a chip, you must provide a scanner on trial day. Tattoos will always be the ID of choice because all it takes is a bit of nair and a pair of eyes to read the tattoo.
