Don't jump me but since you are on the topic of color and being new to the board and all (as if this makes the slaps any less painful), but my GSD is black and tan but has a streak of silve hair running down his back. He is 6 months and otherwise his coat is thick and in good shape. Should I be concerned?

Yes, you have only a short time left before he completely transforms to a skunk. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
I'd love to see a some pictures of him Shari. Is it solid or speckled pigmentation? Sounds neat. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Although it has been determined that the controlling genes for the Bi-Color trait are not located in the "Agouti locus", for all intents and purposes, the Sable or Black&Tan genes will usually override the Bi-Color expression.
I would consider the majority of the 11 "bicolors" on the links page to be blanket blacks (extended saddles) as they don't have the tarheels, striping on the front leg and toe pencilling that I thought were characteristic of the bicolors pattern.
Also I thought bicolors did not have tan underbellies.
You are most likely correct, I'm not convinced that I know exactly how to identify (or define) a bicolor. It was difficult to find many examples that were even close.
Nice lookin' pup. One of the best examples I've seen. Does it seem that there are fewer bicolors than solid blacks? Also many of the sables have the tarheels, arm bars, etc. My sable stud dog does, and he has produced some probable bicolors (here) , but his sire is a black.
