The baking soda Hydrogen peroxide combination was tested on the tv program "Mythbusters" on how to get rid of skunk oder. That was the only stuff that seemed to work
Dogs will roll in nasty things to hide thier scent. In the wild, dogs have to hunt for thier food. The if the animals that they hunt smell them those animals will run off. Therefor, by hiding thier scent with any kind of nasty smell, skunk, feces, ect.; they increase thier chances of catching something to eat. I've never heard of Baking Soda and Hydrogen peroxide being used to remove skunk smell. Allthough, according to my Chemistry professor, Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide is the same thing as OxiClean, and will remove stains just as effectively.
as i understand it, this is classic canine behavior. the rationale is: wild canines, when out scouting for prey, sometimes come across kills they or their pack, haven't made. the scout will roll in the kill, go back to the pack in order to excite them to follow them to "free food". don't forget that canines will, in the wild, feel free to steal others' kills--it's a law of the wild.
our canines haven't forgotten that wild--they're just trying to help their pack find food. awfully sweet of them, really.
i don't think i've ever heard of them rolling in their own feces though. that's kind of psychotic....
