I just want to strongly encourage everyone to take some time and visit Natalya's website... it is extraordinarily beautiful. I find myself getting lost in the artwork and stories about her subjects - they are incredible. Really, really good work Natalya.

It's wonderful, I agree!
WOW! I just finally looked through it all....truly fantastic!
Natalya, you are just amazing, I loved seeing the pics of Oscar and reading all the interesting stories!
I so agree with Barbara, you do some really great work.

This thread is obscenely long already, but I don't think one more update justifies yet another thread on the issue... so here's the latest on the beast:
We had a follow-up appt with the vet last friday, for new x-rays, to see if that lung mass was starting to clear. Remarkably, the x-rays revealed a nearly PERFECT lung! Only the very tiniest residual clues of how bad it looked previously could be seen, but the vet was actually giddy about how good he looked. Behaviorally, he's been completely back to himself, so this just confirmed that he really is healing beautifully.
We opted to keep him on antibiotics 2 more weeks, just to be sure we've cleared what was going on in there, and we might run blood work again at the end of the treatment, to see if that has normalized as well. Since there was absolutely no hint of a locus of inflammation or scarring visible on the x-ray (that could indicate an awn or bit of bark, etc), the vet and her team changed the diagnosis from inhaled foreign body to probable bacterial infection, leaning towards anaplasmosis (which is coincidentally treated with the antibiotic that finally brought his fever down - doxycycline).
All around, an unexpected but definitely BEST CASE scenario.
I'm thrilled, and Oscar has probably forgot the whole thing already.
Oh that is just fantastic news! So very happy Oscar is doing so well.
Did you dance on the way out to the car after the visit?
Nothing like that kind of news to make a person's day, and give you a permanent smile across your face!
Big hugs to you and Oscar!
