Ok Connie thanks
One thing worth mentioning about dog fishing is that if you play it in the yard then take the dog real fishing, expect that your dog may jump in after the first cast. I had to train my female dog that when we fished for real, she couldn't dive in the water after it

After seeing information on this site about indoor dog fishing, I started researching. It is a great game to play with the puppies. Since I raise shepherds, I would not try this with my larger dogs, but it is great for small to medium size dogs.
I liked the concept, and found the poles and started carrying them. I have a small local pet store. I even carry this as one of the very few items on my web site. If you want to see them you can go to my web site and I have a bit of info on them. Thanks to this web site, I find all kinds of neat and useful information.

I will go to your site and look!
I think it's so cool that you found dog-fishing here. I found it totally by a fluke myself, and it was a really fun discovery for me.
My adult but sort-of-smallish GSD loves it. Of course, enough space and the right (not slippery) floor are important!
Again, the intensity and wildness of the game have to be in the control of the human. I really like the game for rainy days (and we get plenty of rain here in winter).

I guess I've played my own version with a thin pole and turkey feather lure that's actually for cats (my cat has limited interest in physical movement). The turkey feather lure is awesome because it's got a ton of movement in and of itself...it flutters around like a bird...and the pole's weight is negligible and you can get a lot of play out of it (bends into a circle). It will drive Annie crazy.
Downside is, she gets it in her mouth a few times--no more turkey feathers.

Yeah, I just use an old Ugli Stick.
Did you make the lure? I would like to try that.
Plus, the salmon season here has been postponed and possibly eliminated this year .......so dogfishing will have to substitute!

Okay, I hope I do not get banned, but I'm going to link to a cat site...sorry folks.
It's the "Da Bird" cat teaser, or at least that looks like mine. You want the lures with the split "V" feathers. I'm not exaggerating about the action...you can work that thing like a fly fishing lure....you can make it spin slow dropping down, pop it up, and the feathers are audible. This pretty much makes my dog insane. Five minutes of this and she's a panting mess.
The only downside is that I can't ever let her "have" it so I don't pull it out often. I think it would be frustrating after awhile. I use this or tug to get some energy out of her before we move on to other things.

Forgot to add last night that I don't know anything about that website I linked here and have never purchased anything from them. That's just what came up first on the Google search.
I got to thinking about the laser pointer/OCD stuff last night...does that have anything to do with them not being able to ever "catch" this little red dot that keeps crawling out of the floor, their paws, the cabinets, etc? That would make sense to me, also would reaffirm why the cat lure isn't a great "every day" toy. No payoff. (?)

That is neat, but I would not use it because I have birds.I would rather them chase balls than feathers. If you have a hunting dog and no pet birds, then it would work. I have 5 adult german shepherds, 4 puppies (temporary), 4 large exotic birds, a cat and her 5 kittens.(no partridge in a pear tree) The animals all get along great, so I would not use something that would teach my dogs to chase the birds or think of them as prey.
