whether or not you consider these corrections to be rough i guess depends on the dog you are dealing with. the dog i have now, he would hardly even notice your average correction. he's a very "hard" dog. he seems to do well with a prong, which is why i haven't (yet) taken a look at the dominant dog collar.
but the dog i was using as an example, tucker, was a very "soft" dog and he couldn't tolerate corrections. he would completely shut down and we had to quit using any kind of collar corrections on him. we needed to use a different method.
not knowing the dog in question, i wouldn't offer an opinion on whether this particular dog needs a higher level of correction or not. i'm just sharing that with some dogs, a different approach also works, and might even be better. as ed says in his basic obedience video, every dog is different and you have to do what works with *your* dog.
one has to adapt what one reads here to one's own situation. i just share my experience and hope it will be useful to others. if it isn't, then please just ignore it! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I agree; dominant collar are the humane way to correct aggressive behavior - I started my training 20 years ago with the old school "Jerk the choker" for correction; which worked with my one alpha female; but does NOT work with my current alpha female - but when I tried the dominant collar and lifted her front feet of the ground just for 2 seconds; then a repeated lift of 3 seconds for going after a kid on a bike - it worked - it only took one session of two lifts and she does not go after bikes anymore. I also used this in the house when she decideds to challenge me (which has only happened twice) or refuses to listen. It works, but also may not be for all dogs - depends on the dog, all dogs are diffenent and it's hard to give advice on message boards, but we can all share personal experiences. My female is not dog aggressive, but if she were I would use it then too, or people aggressive.
