Matt, if those buckles won't open during a correction from Alex ( who is an incredibly strong man and gives a *strong* correction ) I don't think that it'll open for any of us.
The buckle is made of alum. and was very strudy...
'Most' people use the prong collar as it was designed to be used...with the leash hooked to the outer 'live' ring.
I was always told by many people to put it thru the dead ring (both rings) unless the dog doesn't respond to it this way -- should I change my technique??? The live ring feels "sloppy" and ineffective and somewhat more un-nerving to pop the collar hard enough to make my dog even blink.
Mike,
I use the prong on both rings also, for the same reasons you listed.
I actually feel I give a more effective correction, with less muscle power and less movement of my arm. I have used the live ring also, but use the dead ring much more.
If it works for you, then it's fine! Either way.
Like Cindy said...different strokes, and I've never seen a 'quick release' that was worth a flip (except maybe this new one...have to check it out).
If the collar is fit properly, it shouldn't feel sloopy on the live ring, and should only require a quick snap of the leash to get the desired results.

Next time I head up there you'll have to take a look at his prong fitment, I think it's on properly, snug up high on his neck, I just went to a smaller link prong because he didn't respond to the larger 4mm prong in alot of situations, so he's down to a 3mm n doing good with minimal correction.
Unfortunately he's got an issue with one of his teeth (see other thread about purple teeth) so it'll be a while before he's gonna do bitework again
On the other hand, did I miss to see " dead vs. live ring' on these prong collar. Where will the snap come from? Are these collar better for dogs that need more than a average correction?
