for anyone who simply hates having to pick up dog crap when they are out on a walk, i have a solution that i developed when i owned a mastiff in new york city. i assure you, in that situation, you would not want to be using an inside out plastic bag over your hand!
just take along a few sections of the newspaper. when your dog starts to squat, fling a section, unfolded halfways, under your dog's posterior. reposition as needed with your foot.
voila! waste falls onto paper, not sidewalk or neighbor's lawn, so there is no skid mark left, and you just neatly refold the paper in half and plunk it in the trash (if a city street), or into a plastic grocery bag until you get to an appropriate recepticle.
i actually had a passerby once ask me how i had managed to train my dog to go on the paper!
it's all in the wrist, dahling.
LOL That is a genious idea Alice! Thank you so much for sharing. I'll be sure to drop off a newspaper to my neighbor in the AM and clearly explain to him the steps you stated. *Giggles* I'm just kidding, but I Do think it's a great idea.. better than everyone walking/driving by seeing you try so hard to clean up poo as it smears all over. Ack! Even better is when your furry friend sits there and looks at you like you have completely lost your mind. =0)
Why do you put up with your neighbour doing that? I'd drop it right back in HIS garden AFTER telling him I was going to do it. It's not your job to clean up after his dog!
Hi Amanda. When I was living in Massachusetts, we had an upstairs neighbor who had a dog. This neighbor was lazy (among other things) and would let the dog out of their apt door so the dog could go outside and relieve itself, but they quite often did not go with the dog. Just opened the apt door and let them out. Sometimes the outer door to the apt building was closed, the dog couldn't get out, so it would poop and pee on my landing. I told the neighbor about it. No change. I scooped up the poop on a piece of cardboard and deposited it right in front of their apt door, right on the doorstep. I did this twice. From then on, they at least walked the dog down the stairs and out the door. Some people have no business having dogs.
We've lived here for a little over a year - my husband manages the building - we have presently been dealing with nasty tenats that just throw their garbage in front of the front foyer instead of walking 3 feet around the side of the house to place it in the can... my point being - I am so used to cleaning up after other people. But I do see your point and I have approached the man about it - but he just stared at me blankly like I was speaking another language. My husband has suggested the same thing - I'm not that aggresive ... my husband is. So I'll just let him do it for me. LoL.
have to stick my two cents in, after my GSD got the idea of outside I hung bells on the back door and as we went outside-before I opened the door-I would ring the bells and repeat "outside" a few times then let him out to do his thing. It only took a short while before I would hear the bells ring and sure enough he would be standing at the door with that look on his face and I would let him out.Now its routine.Good luck
