And don't forget Steve!
I happen to love Steve's posts. Still remember his first few... puppy biting him all to hell and he was THRILLED...tracking exercises in the middle of the night...His obvious joy in his dog was/is really fun to read.

I finally installed my new freezer outside in the shed for my dogs food. It really makes a difference because when I find a good buy Ican stock up, whereas before I had limited space.
Also, I just called a farm feed store and I can get a live chicken for $2. No freezer needed for that.
Maybe growing up in the city has stunted some of my "common sense" in these matters, but do you feed live chicken to your dog as one would feed a live mouse to a snake? Since you mention no freezer is needed (so I assume you mean that you won't "prepare" it and freeze what is left over), I'm reading this as feed the dog a live chicken. If that's not the case, then it seems like killing and gutting a live chicken for the dog would be a lot of work for a meal. I'm almost too embarrassed to ask, but my curiosity has gotten the best of me here. I'm totally intrigued.
I never feed anything live or even let my dogs see thier food live. I do not want to bring out the attack wild animal drive in them cause we do alot of camping, hiking etc.
Those who would give up essential freedoms for the temporary feeling of safety deserve neither!!
lots of people with snakes won't feed live nowadays anyway, it's a good way to get your snake all torn up. unless you bash the critter on the head first, which i wouldn't have the heart to do. course i don't like snakes anyway.
having said that, steve: do you gut/pluck them? joe's right, that does seem like an awful lot of work.
No way I could feed live anything, they would become pets in an instant. My kids would make sure of that,4 dogs ,2 cats, one rabbit and then live chickens ,forget it
We have 2 freezers and one is for the dogs,we did buy it for the kids ,tired of their popsicles all over the place so we bought a freezer for that ,and it has been the dogs now for the past 5 years. It's full all the time.Any good meat on sale it's best to get it and freeze it.You can never have too much meat
