This vet does not push raw feeding but if you want to feed raw he will not try and convince you not too. He also has no problem with minimal vaccinations

Kimba and I had our appointment with Dr. Karen Becker this morning. I feel very comfortable recommending her!

Everything we discussed from improving the raw diets and supplementation for our dogs, to vaccinations fall right in line with what Ed and Cindy consistently recommend. The specific reason for our visit relates to some reproductive problems with Kimba. But of course I had a whole 'nother list of more general questions relating to her, and our other 3 dogs.

I was very comfortable with our specific discussion on the reproductive front. I am only willing to take a moderate approach (i.e. are there natural approaches to her obvious hormone issues that are not invasive or difficult for her, and not over the top expensive for us). She totally supports the moderate approach, both for the dog and the wallet. I'm totally comfortable with her recommendations, and I'm now glad we didn't spay immediately after the lost litter. I'm willing to try this one more time with her on my team.

Other random fun stuff...

* This is the first vet's office I've ever stepped into, where there was not a Science Diet logo in sight. I didn't see a single thing in there that was crap in a bag. Quite the opposite - I smiled when I saw the THK containers on the shelf, and a refrigerated section for other natural but pre-mixed raw foods.

* This was coincidence, but Kimba was due on 1/24 for a Rabies shot. I must have that legally, but based on info presented here, I was planning to ask about the 3 year shot (roll eyes at my mortification when I discovered here on Leerburg that it's the same dose as 1 year...WHAT?!?!). Before I got the chance to ask about that, the receptionist said... "Now you DO want the THREE YEAR shot, right? Not a one year shot, right?"

Anyway, a great and very informative visit. Cindy, I think you should feel very comfortable adding Dr. Becker to your list. (and taking Dr. Norris off, if you ever put him on there in the first place)

Anyone know of any in the Austin, Texas zone? I've been feeding raw for about 7 years now and anti-vaccination for about the same....since my sheltie X started siezing right after yet another yearly rabies vac. The vets I use now are ok in that they don't argue with me about feeding raw but we still clash on the issue of vaccinating......by law you're supposed to do it(rabies) yearly here on cats and dogs. It's a bit frustrating as the rescue dog we recently got is still way underweight and the antibiotics we got for him haven't done a thing for his upper respiratory infection.

Conventional vet that likes clients that are knowledgable about their dog's health and involved. Approves of the raw diet in situations where he believes the owner did their homework. He is about the only vet in the area that is comfortable with large dogs with an attitude.

Unfortuantely, we recently moved from TN to the Louisville, KY area. Anyone know a vet in this area that is raw diet friendly and comfortable with Rottweilers?
