Connie,
Like your response, it is always better to say something nice than to blow off your steam. I know there are some folks who deserve that but you never know what is happening within that persons world, the wrong words can surely get you dead. Have you folks on the board seen the movie CRASH?
Kill them with kindness and thank them for being a concerned person about animal welfair, that will generally defuse the problem before it grows even bigger.
Yes I too would like to cuse a few folks out but also I know that the Father in Heaven says to turn the other cheek.

Yes the Father in heaven does say to turn the other cheek, but there is a reason he only gave us two cheeks. I am more likey to let them hear what I have to say, and it would not be pleasant. My wife has the gift of Irish diplomacy
"She can tell you to got to Hell, how to get there and what to do once you arrive"
in such a way that you will actually thank her.
Not me I would probably cuss, still a football coach at heart.
Connies right just difuse the situation and move along.

Jäger's crate is in the bed of my truck, lashed down and covered with shade cloth.
I have a clip attached to the crate and leave a 3X5 card stating what time I left him there because busy bodies just know the poor dog's been left there for hours and anything I say is a lie.
I also have it locked to prevent them from "Rescuing" him.
My vet says people tell her she's not properly caring for her dogs, even after she's told them she's a vet!

Nice answer, Connie.
I'd rather have the 'busybodies' who try to protect any animal which they, possibly in ignorance, think is endangered, than the thoughtless morons who do cook their dogs and children in locked cars, and the sadists who 'train' their dogs(and children?) by beating them.

I'd rather have the busybodies too.
That's the thing. If we like people to care about animals, then we can't really get too enraged when they make a mistake, not knowing us (and our purity of heart , and tuck into us. We can just say "Oops, I'm on your side! And thanks for caring, btw!"

Sometime in the last year, I came upon a car parked outside a store, moter running, and 2 very young kids inside. The kid had one window cracked. Mom was inside a bookstore. I stood there with my GSD to guard the kids, and when she emerged I spoke to her and tried very politly to explain why what she did was very dangerous. Her response; this is a safe neighborhood. True, but no neighborhood is that safe. I also sometimes watch dogs left tied outside stores, and tell the owners that some small dogs go missing to become pit bait.
The point is that sometimes intervention is needed, and in some of the stories in this thread, the Complainer is noticing something that they think is dangerous, and have good intentions, even if they are wrong, or ignorant.

figure of speech jason!! have seen light wieght ones used on young dogs but dont use myself until their more developed, over use can be damaging but used properly there ok. trained all myn with them (gun dogs). if the pup is trained properly then corecction with them when their older should be rare but its on there just in case, rabbit bolting dog moving infront of the gun etc.
i am training a dog to look after my parents at the mo and have been researching hence this site (recomeended by a ex forces friend helping to train the dog),a true collection of experince and great advice.
have seen prong collars etc. have never seen these before in england. understand the theory behind them and they seem a good idead but if i was to be seen using one on this island of dog lovers the dogooders would string me up and make mats xperince look tame.
for that reason an with the advice of my training partner i am keeping very stum as to what my new dog is being trained in. its sad that people assume a dog trained in pp is vicious etc.

i was just wondering. i could very easy be wrong but i just thought a 12week old pup was too young to put a choke on. since it is a figure of speech then dead issue. i use a pinch myself and get many dirty looks. every once in a while a person says something but i just give them a smart a.. answer back. usually something to the effect of, do you have a master trainer certificate? when they start to answer i cut them off and reply then shut the BEEEEEEEEEEEEEP up until you show me a dog that can dance the two step that you trained.
i know there is better ways of handling it but i am a person that doesn't really care what people think or say about me. Nor do i feel that i need to explain meself to every JOHN DOE that that thinks they know things and they really couldn't pick their own nose with out an instruction manual.

I try to say "Good for you that you care; I wish everyone did. I'm not guilty, but I appreciate people who watch out for dogs in trouble."
There's no way my brain would allow me to say that, especially when they should mind their own business and pick their battles instead of blindly trying to save the world.
As I was driving away I said to myself you're lucky it was me and not someone who would take you on.
I did have my dog tied up outside starbucks after our walk on one of the rare hot days. She was in a sit (due to her recent spay, who knew what was on the ground by that tree if I downed her). She could only stand or sit and the leash was in place. This lady and her 2 kids came walking up and she just stopped, frowned, grabbed her kids and walked way far around. My dog, being the good girl she is, was looking into starbucks watching me waiting for my coffee. She had such a sour look on her face. I came out, said good sit and scratched her throat and untied her & left. I'm sure if it were a pomeranian she wouldn't have that sour look.

Well you abusive pet owner. how dare you correct your dog and make it listen to you. you should have your dogs taken from you for teaching it to obey.
Haha! That was a great reply. Aww... some people are just un-educated however in their wee minds believe they know everything. Don't worry about it, you'll probably never see her again.
