If you are thinking they would be too much dog for you, then why get one?
Not trying to hurt any feelings, but even the lowest drive Mal is going to be a challenge, IMO. AND the worst of the litter can cause you severe problems as far as nerve issues, handling and training problems.
It took me a year or so of watching, helping, handling and studying the Malinois before I took the plunge. Was I ready? YEP...she has been a challenge every step of the way but she matches my personality as far as being outspoken, tenacious and acting before thinking sometimes, but we are both learning together and that is what makes it great.
IMHO, you need to be totally sure before you decide on a Malinois. I have seen one Mal that was a low drive, obedient, trustworty dog and I have seen quite a few Malis. The rest have all been "Hi, my name is Gator and if you do not give me something to do I am going to eat my crate and all of your furniture and any cats I can get a hold of as well."
