Well, Shaed(my female GSD) came back from the vet with a clean bill of health. My fiance took both the dogs in. The vet said that GSD's are prone to have digestive problems and sometimes they puke. Two nights ago, she threw up again, but I had given her a raw egg-have done this every so often(she loves them). She had puked about 3 hrs after eating the egg, so we tried to figure out when the last time she threw up was. We came to the conclusion that it was the last time I gave her an egg. We are going to watch her and not give her anymore eggs and see how it goes for a little bit. If she does puke again, sans egg, we're going to get er blood drawn. Other than that, the vet said she was the healthiest GSD that has ever been into his office. Made me proud! She weighs 57lbs and is 25" at her shoulder, has a good waistline. My choc lab pup, 4 mo old male, already weighs 30 lbs. Vet said he's going to be a BIG boy.

Vet also said that my fiance and I are some of the better dog owners in the area, this is just by what my fiance told him about the training we do and how we interact with the dogs. I had switched to this vet because of all the great things I heard about his clinic, and the fact that I went to a different vet clinic and the 4 times I took Shaed in for shots and checkup, she saw a different vet each and every time-the last vet to see her didn't even touch her beyond giving the rabies shot(IMO, I would have like the vet to actually put her/his hands on my dog and feel the abdomen, spine, check the hips, etc. not just stand there and be intimidated(if that was the case) and say, without any of the above, that she looks great and have a nice day) Which is basically what happened at the last vet clinic. SO glad to have a vet who REALLY care for the animals.
Oh, and since my last posting about Shaed puking, she hasn't thrown up once. Hmm... No more eggs? I think so.

Great news, well you sound like a responsible dog owner, hopefully those symptoms your pup has will stop.
Good luck!

Just a thought here. How old is your dog? I once had a shep/chow that would vomit also. What I ended up doing was using a raised feeding dish, helped wonders.

Did the vet perform any tests other than an office exam? If not, you may want to go back in & have some blood work done, as well as take in a stool sample for fecal examination. Even if there is nothing wrong with the dog, your vet will have a good baseline for your dog to compare to in the event something does strike.

Kay, My GSD is 14 months old, and never threw up until I started giving her eggs, she also threw up when I gave her salmon(didn't know that it isn't good to feed salmon to dogs til after the fact).
Susan, I don't know if you read the first post on this page,
--The vet said that GSD's are prone to have digestive problems and sometimes they puke. Two nights ago(2 days after being to the vet), she threw up again, but I had given her a raw egg-have done this every so often(she loves them). She had puked about 3 hrs after eating the egg, so we tried to figure out when the last time she threw up was. We came to the conclusion that it was the last time I gave her an egg. We are going to watch her and not give her anymore eggs and see how it goes for a little bit. If she does puke again, sans egg, we're going to get her blood drawn. Other than that, the vet said she was the healthiest GSD that has ever been into his office.--
My fiance did ask about the puking and since I wasn't there I can't tell you exactly what the vet said, but it was basically that GSD's are prone to digestive problems and sometimes they need meds for it(or a change in diet).
I will take her back in if the problem persists-if she pukes again. Since the vet wasn't really concerned and we figured that it was the eggs I give her once in a while, that we would watch the situation a bit longer.
I don't want to draw it out, if it is serious, but the vet we went to is very animal oriented and wants the best for the pets and owners who go to his clinic. Thank you for the concern though.
He also checked out her hips and elbows and said from what he could "feel" that she seemed great(going to get her x-rayed soon, for pre-lim)

I read it & I'm really glad both your dogs are OK. I'm sure your vet knows what he is doing, especially since you are comfortable with him. It's just that with my dogs I try to get labs done every couple of years so that my vet has a record to compare to in case my dog gets sick. Kind of like my own check up at the doctor!
