What if the dog is civil, but after a point loses interest in the sleeve? My Luke is pretty laid back, likes most folks, but will not hesitate to actually bite if provoked. He has lost all interests in the sleeve though, he starts looking for a way around that sleeve, over it, or under it. I love him to death, he is my buddy, but he is creepy about wanting to get at the person behind the sleeve, it's not about "the game" to him. He outs fine, but you can see that he isn't too happy about being denied.
I'd like to get into Shutzhund later on, maybe with a Mal, but Luke is not nearly as prey driven as the MWDs (Mals & GSDs) I have been around. They see the sleeve and do cartwheels at the sight of the helper, Luke is more likely to sit and watch the helper until he gets within 10 feet or so, and then still doesn't bark alot, he just moves to the bite. I can tell him to "watch him", and if that helper stays outside 10 or so feet, then Luke WILL watch him alright, watch him walk away clean. LOL!
If everyone is thinking alike, then someone isn't thinking.

My Mink guy is also civil, but it's a very prey-driven sort. He is not a defensive dog, but even when he's 'just' playing a game, it's a serious game. I liken him to some punkass kid down the road who gets his kicks from getting into fistfights.
I think it seems like this high prey drive is common in the Mink offspring at least. Whether good or bad what I like about the line is its consistency, as the 'nervy' and the 'good' dogs exhibit similar behaviour.

Mine only has Mink on the mother side only, my male is not prey drven ,some prey is there but he has more defense and fight drive. He also matured very fast.
I think it all depends on the breeding in both sides

I agree with the other dogs listed above and would like to add a couple Orry von Haus Antverpa, Ufo Guy's Hof,Afra vom Stoppenberger Land,Igor van de Herdgang,Randa vom Haus Sevens and the "E" litter that produced 1997 FCI CHAMPION Erika Mat-Roz and Eron Mat-Roz.
Recently, I've had a chance to observe a couple of Asko Lutter sons along with a couple grand-daughters that were top notch. Asko has produced allot of good dogs.

i like the following old lines ;Korbelbach, karthago, Bungalow ,Rolandsteich,Neffeltal lines .
known for strong dogs ,very steady nerves , consistant scores in all phases no matter where worked , over all lines with dogs you can live with not over the top .settle easy and bigger size .slows them a little but i like size .

The above question was with regard to this earlier post...
Yes I have seen a few good Mink dogs, but an equal amount of crappy ones, I know the Mink lines in particular have the reputation to produce nervey litters if you breed dogs that don't "mesh" well genetically. Not a dig on your Mink dog at all, like I said, seen a few good ones, seen a few bad ones
Also I wanted to ask are you referring to direct sons, daughters to Mink or dogs who are nervy with Mink in the 3rd,4th or 5th generation ? I have a Dolf vh Ming(2-2 Mink) grandaughter..weak nerves is not an issue and the breeder who I brought my pup from is looking for bloodlines to add a little more sharpness to the linebred Mink progeny he has...the close linebreeding is pretty telling of the genetics behind mink so I'd say they more than likely improve nerve strength but it depends what other combinations are in the pedigree, you really have to look at the total picture( Not just with Mink but with any famous dog). What other bloodlines in the pedigree may have contributed to them being nervy ? What sort of dogs were the parents and grandparents ? Did they possess and pass on Mink's character/working ability ? If not how much influence can he have then ? The combo which produced Dolf vh Ming also doubles up a bit more on Ignaz(Mink's maternal grandfather) who is a Bernd Lierberg son(very famous for producing excellent courage, nerve strength in case you didn't know ).
regards,
