It's unbelievable, he just went to the door and whined to go pee . After 18 hours of following Ed's 8 weeks to 8 months DVD and the potty training artical! I'm thinking Puppy of the Year! He, he!
Ed
He is SO CUTE!!! He looks like my 5 year old did when she first got here.....but your boy sounds like such a GOOD dog!!! Our Jordan was a mini hound from hell.....she had something to say about everything and didn't sleep thru a night for at least a month.......she didn't wake us up for potty breaks so much as "I have something to tell you" breaks! I just love the plush coated shepherds.......they're such good hug-a-dogs!
I don't remember where I read it, but I read somewhere that pups shouldn't climb stairs for the first 3 (or it might have been 6) months. I carried my pup up and downstairs until he was through his 13th week and just over 20 lbs. I think it was at 14 weeks, I started letting him go up and down on his own.
He can be a little clumsy at times, but he is on leash, so I'm right there with him.
I think you need to do what is right for you and the pup. :-)
Maybe Puppy of the Year was a little too hopeful. Twice this evening as I'm putting on my shoe's he pee'd on the carpet. I think he's getting the idea that shoe's on means outside and he get's to excited to hold it.
I gave him his first RAW tonight. It was a beef rib after the usual amount of THK. He loved it, even growed at me when I got a little to close. I pulled all the Alfa moves I know after that! Later he allowed me to take it from him. I gave it right back though, with them sad puppy eye's beaming at me.

Hey Ed! Good luck with that "puppy eyes" thing! Those puppy eyes haven't changed one bit on Gunnar and because of it, he get's away with murder still - but don't tell the guys and gals on this board. I think I have most of them fooled into thinking I'm no pushover !
