At the risk of hijacking Mike's thread, If you can make the time, GO!
Bernhard did a seminar near Columbus, Ohio last weekend. We had some AKC people, some new Schutzhund folks and some experienced trainers. We all brought something away from the sessions.
Bernhard is an excellent teacher and has a gift for communicating his points.
BTW, two of the Sage/Natan pups were there. They aquited themselves well.
Day one is over and it was a long day of training with Bernhard. We started out around 7:30am and finsished at around 11:45pm.
He really works each dog a long time and gives in depth mini-lectures with everyone's dog. On Saturday we will cover theory, in depth with him.
I am sure that if he is ever in your area you will not come away from the seminar not learning something new.

That's for sure. I was at last weekend's seminar and he stuffed us so full of information my head still hurts. He never gives just a yes-or-no answer. His philosophy is if he just helps people work their dogs on today's problem, they'll go away having no idea what to do next or what the ultimate goal is. He wants to create thinking handlers.
Well the seminar is over, and it was a long weekend. We had a good turnout and Bernhard worked alot of dogs for a loooooong time in the heat. We were lucky that it was not as hot as it could have been and a few mornings were a bit chilly. I know that I have learned some new things and I don't think there was anyone there that did not learn something new no matter what thier experience level was. We have a wide range of people there so we all got to see a bunch of different ways to do things. Bernhard likes to explain in detail his way(s) of doing things. In Germany he is known as the "thinker". With a few 14 hr days I think we got alot of work in. He has alot of ideas and has seen alot of the dog sport in his 30 plus yrs of doing it. I'll have more info later.
Mike I wanted to say thank you for putting the seminar together. I really enjoyed it and learned few new things as well. Also, thank Jason for me for hosting, I didn't get a chance before I left. I wish I could have done more than one day especially with the fact he filled up most of it with "theory". Thanks again Mike.
I had an AWESOME time at this seminar and I learned more than I can even remember but I know it is in the long-term memory banks.....
Bernhard did a fantastic job in the Florida Heat and he made a newby like me feel very welcome and answered any and all questions asked. I never felt like I was out of place or in over my head, it was quite the learning experience.
Besides seeing a lot of nice dogs (And a Really Nice German Boxer-Luke) and making some new friends, it was a great weekend at a beautiful place in the middle of the Horse Country Capital of the World. Bernhard is quite simply one of the nicest people I have ever met not just in the Dog World, but in life as well.
I laughed more times than I can remember and I thank Mike, Jason and Emie for a well hosted event, it was worth every penny spent. I want to go ahead and reserve my spot for next year UNDER the tent.........LOL
Hey Art thanks for coming.I had a great time talking and joking with and I am glad you got alot out of the seminar. I hope your dog feels better soon. When he gets better well get you started on some tracking with him. No time to waste. I wanted this seminar to be a marathon weekend of dog training and I think we got just that. I don't believe that most of his seminars go on for 14 hrs some days but you for sure will get something out of it if you attend. I wanted everyone to get the most they could out of Bernhard when I decided to host this seminar. I do not think there is anyone that did not come out of the seminar without learning something new. I think if anyone can go to one of his seminars, it is worth it, even for just a day as you will learn something. I have an interview that I did with him that I will send in to the Schutzhund magazines as I think it would be informative for people to read. For the next time I have him back I think I am going to divide the seminar up into two or three days for puppies, young dogs, and novice handlers and then a two or three day seminar for more advanced teams. I think this will flow alot better and the less experienced group can audit the more advanced teams. Maybe next time we will have 6 days of Flinks!! We will see what Bernhard says about 6 days of the heat, LOL. I thought maybe I worked him too hard, but he said see you next year so I guess he is ok. I bet he had no trouble sleeping on the flight home, considering we did a three day Police K9 seminar the following week. LOL.
