I don't think it was because of breeding for looks or color. When man started breeding dogs to conform to standards different from "mother nature's" I think it was probably inevitable that weaknesses were bound to crop up. As problems occur, breeders strive to correct them. I am not criticizing breeders at all.
Sorry if I was misunderstood I'm NOT criticizing breeders either. I'm just agreeing with Natayla that yes our breeding and subbing for mother nature have just put those type of weaknesses under a microscope.
As in the wild due to the law of selection a canine with weaknesses wouldn't survive. But in a humans care we have glucusomine supplements and medical drugs, right up to surgery to help out our canine friends.
