For a while, I'll be back Got my dogs here yesterday, 27 or 28 hours door to door. ATL has a heat embargo due to its hot weather so they got to spend 12 hours at JFK. They're enjoying country life though!
Steve I am assuming you are meaning you have a Dutch bred German Shepherd? A Dutch Shepherd is a different breed entirely and is brindle in color. I have never heard of a sable dutch shepherd
i have. i've seen some odd dogs come from two brindle dutchies mating. one i know looks just like a sable GSD. in certain lighting you can see some brindling on his legs. another litter i know yielded some dogs that look just like a GSD.
Well I don't know too much about the GSD or DSD, but I DO know that if 2 dogs have the gene color for brindle, it's possible to throw brindle or all fawn, tan, black shades, etc. If they do NOT have the brindle gene, it's impossible to throw a brindle.
In the past having been very much into pitbulls, I seen many that had longer snouts, I forget but there were a couple of bloodlines that produced lots of brindle, and they had longer than usual snouts. Definately pit in there, that also explains the ears IMO, he has pit ears. possible a pit cross. While not impossible by no means, a dutch sheperd in a animal shelter is even more remote than a Mal from what I have seen, but I'm not the shelter expert. You could get a DNA test done and see if he has a parent or parents that are pit if you deeply want to know.
I've seen Pit x Greyhounds (Lurchers) that looked identical to the dog in the pic. Both breeds carry the brindle gene. Eyes, ears, color, build, all make me think of that possibility.
It could be one. It is hard to tell, for sure, without knowing where it came from. Regarding DNA. You will not be able to tell if it is a pure bred dutch by that. All the DNA program does at this point, is verify parentage.
