I recently purchased a 2yr old black male from a rescue , they have no history on him . He is very timid any slight noise will startle him and cause him to run away , hes very scared to walk down the street ,cars that drive by scare him people that walk by scare him and ive noticed if you raise a object over your head he lowers his body and runs. with no history on him could this be from no socialization ,abuse (object over head)or bad genetics or all three . . .
I think I have one of his littermates!
I rescued an 18-mo-old female about a year and a half ago. I would describe her as being the exact same way when we got her. With gradual socialization to the world (people, dogs, noises, etc.), obedience training and learning how to read her, she's completely (well, maybe not completely!) turned around and is probably about as good as she'll get. At least I'm aware of her limitations. I'm careful to not put her in situations where the ol' demons will rise up and I wouldn't trust her around kids w/o very close supervision, etc., etc., but, hey, adopting a rescue is a crap shoot. Glad to hear you're going to stick with him. It can still be rewarding to see what can be done with damaged goods.
I have bad news tonight the shepherd i have was being walked by my 12 yr daughter and some boys ages 18 -23 sicked thier pit bull on my dog as my daughter was walking him not that far from where i was .the dog took off but the rescue came down with search lights and we searched a mile length o rr tracks and after 3 hrs we found him with his leash weged around a tree the ambulance came for my daughter and naturally being a dad i tried to fight all three of them that sicked a pit bull on her !the police are searching our neighborhood for the suspects they say but numorous people have spotted them and say they tell them thier going to shoot me for calling ambulance for my daughter . i still love my rescue and will keep him until he aint here no more but i wish i had a protection dog money wont allow it at this time ! anybody want to donate a protection dog ill make payments i just wish i had a deterant to back people like that off !! any suggestions anyone ? you can go to norwood police cinti, ohio about this incedent and ask why thier not taking this behavior serious out of the subject and pit bull canine at 513 458-4520 and tell them its about the pitbull being sicked on a 12 year old girl and a timid rescue shepherd at the corner of elm st and section rd the complaintif is me victor addis . im asking for your help to pressure the dept to take this serious its a assault with a deadly weapon and its my daughter and my dog ! thanks to anyone who can help !!! sincerly victor
Sad to hear this. I would have reacted the same as you but a protection dog would not have made a difference here. Protection dogs are made to fight people, not animals. I've had many a "Hoodie" threaten to send their dog on my PSD and they talk about how their dog will kick my dogs ass. My response is always "I'll shoot and kill your dog then you will have to deal with mine while yours is dying in the streets". That usually brings a load of racial slurs and disparaging comments on my family but no action as they are cowards.
I don't know how bad your daughter was injured but a protection dog may have prevented some of that if he would actually engage another dog. If the Pit went after your daughter instead of the dog, the only way to stop it is put a little peice of lead behind its ear....at 1400 fps. I hope she is OK and the scumbags are caught. When it comes to cases like this, I am considered a PitBull. I love putting AS&*^% like that in jail.
Hope your daughter is alright. Those people are sick to do that. Now I can understand your desire for a guard dog. Maybe you don't need a guard dog but a better area to live in.
