Hehe...I've been a victim of crime, and by no means do I feel bad for the guy, or for any other criminal!
I don't have a problem with joking about tripping the guy on his way to prison - I had to make some dark jokes to keep myself sane while the perp I dealt with walked free. Good way to vent the anger.
I just wouldn't support any "extra" intentional punishment. If he trips on a rock and falls, I can't help but smile a little, but I wouldn't want someone tripping him or something. I think my motto is that the more innocent we are, the guiltier he (or she) is.
But that's it from me for the off topic stuff, I hope the officer and her dog recover well.

I work with/in LE as a criminal prosecutor so I know all about gallows humor :-) With that said, I think the problem with joking about cops tripping defendants etc on a public list is that the general public might believe that this is what really goes on when Cops goes to commercial.
Law enforcement quite often gets a bum rap in the press. Under appreciated and under paid is only the beginning of the bum rap. Let's face it, the average person has little to no true understanding of what LE does. Because of this, I try not to say anything that could be construed as reflecting negative about law enforcement in a public forum. I leave the gallows humor for private conversations with other law enforcement individuals. They are the only ones who will truly appreciate the humor for the most part anyways ;-)
Just my opinion FWIW. I am sure I will be down to one star by the end of the day My continued wishes for a speedy recovery to Suzanne and Axel and may the perpetrators of this offense be held fully accountable for their actions.

Hey Angelique, well I can sympathize with people who have been victims of crime, but also when you have seen someone been beaten by 2 or more cops for nothing other than simply not being able to communicate in their language, or yourself being a target of "looking suspect" or stereotyping, you tend to not think those jokes are so funny. I'd much rather prefer that if someone does a crime, whether they're black, white, brown, poor, rich, famous or a nobody, they should pay for it, nothing more, nothing less.

My family and I will be praying and asking others to do the same for both of them. May God Truely Watch Over All Our Officers.

It is clear to me now that my comment was in poor taste. I in no way wanted to start a social thread about police brutality. I was reading the post and Angelique's statement reminded me of a joke.
I did not want to offend anyone, and I most certainly was not trying to shift the focus towards social issues.
Everyone should try to be as good as their dog thinks they are. |

As a law enforcement officer, I find it personally offensive that anyone would come to a forum entitled "Fallen LEO" and discuss anything relative to police brutality. I would think my brothers and sisters in uniform would feel the same way. It's certainly your right to discuss anything you want, take it somewhere more appropriate. 2007 is currently setting a pace for officers killed in the line of duty not seen in many years, leave this forum for what it was intentioned, well wishes and expressions of condolences for those injured or fallen.
All give some, some give all.

David,
I see that you still aren't as jaded as most of us. Are you even surprised by these comments? I'm a few years short of you in the job and it still surprises me after all these years when a 12 year old girl gives me the finger or a doughnut joke flies my way (even though I'm physically fit) or any number of stereotypical comments are made. I hope I never stop being offended by these things, otherwise I might turn into an a**hole cop.

David, you're right. This is the wrong thread for the discussion - I'm sorry to have participated.

Oh my gosh, this is awful. I surely hope the officer has a speedy and complete recovery, and I also will hope for a complete recovery for her K9 partner
As for the hopped up burglars, I sincerely hope they throw the book at all of them. A very BIG book. And I hope they spend a lot of time behind bars.

David, I am not a LEO, but I was thinking the same thing. Thank you for speaking out. Not the place for that sort of discussion.
