If they won't return your calls or emails then showing up unannounced at their home probably won't get you what you want...possession of the dog. You most likely will find yourself in a tense situation in which you have no authority to do anything.
I would probably put in a call to animal control or LE, explain the situation, and see what they suggest. Given your credentials they may take the dog and be willing to turn her over to you for evaluation. Just a thought...

That is what I am going to do.....I thought of just showing up, but I really could care less about dealing with them....I just want to make sure the dog does not go to a home and bite someone else.
The dog is my main concern.

Okay....venting......Humane Society/Animal Control states, "There is not really anything we can do. They are not breaking any laws by advertising the dog. What we can recommend is that you pester them until you get the dog."
My question, "Wouldn't that be considered harassment on my part?"
I will pester them, don't get me wrong, but I need to draw the line somewhere so that they cannot come back with harassment issues....or am I wrong?

Carol,
I don't understand why they would have a problem giving you the dog. If they are giving it "Free to a good home", I would think they would be happy you got her. Their reluctance doesn't make sense to me.
Maybe they've already given away the dog and just don't want to admit it(?)
I don't know if pestering them would be considered harrassment or not. As long as you are not rude or threatening to them, I don't see how they can charge you with harrassment.
Good luck, and let us know how it all turns out.

I am thinking this is what happened.

Carol, why don't you have a friend of yours call (from their phone in case the owner has your number), someone they don't know, and tell the owner that they're interested in the dog. That way you'll see if the dog is still available. If so, your friend can go pick up the dog and bring him to you. The owner doesn't even need to know you're involved.

Hee Hee Sandy, I just got off the phone with a friend of mine and he is going to call......GREAT minds think alike!!!!
I actually had though about it earlier, but it is a bit shady, and I was worried that it would not be "right".

Get a friend to call... that was my first thought as well - if they can't play fairly, than you don't have to either! There is the possibility that the dog is already re-homed, but it's worth a good try...

You go Carol! As far as it being shady, I don't think it is - at all. Don't worry about that. It's a simple black and white issue of doing the right thing for the dog, the one they don't want anymore, the one they've beat. Shady would possibly be going and taking the dog without their knowledge.
Let us know the outcome. I hope the dog is still available.
