I gaurantee no harm was done.
Ditto.
I know it's kind of repulsive to discover, but it really is not uncommon; it's not particularly harmful and there are no long-term effects.

I decided not to feed green tripe anymore. My dog had a case of tapeworm and although it could have been a flea, it seems green tripe could have been the contributor. To me, the benefit of green tripe doesn't outweigh the tapeworm potential.
What made you suspect tripe? Very few dogs eat tripe, but many get tapeworm. Freezing tripe (or any other raw foods) should kill the parasite.
Hi Connie, posting at the same time!

Thanks guys, for your assurances that no harm was done to Lear. That was my primary concern and fear since the first year of a puppy is the most important growth-wise. I was also repulsed by the fact that these segments were probably in my home somewhere. I had a cleaning frenzy but still felt uncomfortable. I'm mellowing out somewhat now
The reason I suspected the green tripe is because although I've checked Lear for fleas off and on, I've never seen any on him and he's always been treated monthly with either Frontline Plus or Advantix. He began scratching near his rear and that's when I lifted his tail and saw the worm segments.
I know cows can get tapeworm so next thought was the green tripe, where the tapeworm would be if a cow had it. On the other hand, it could be the raw ground rabbit I feed him often from a raw dog food manufacturer. I don't know. I decided against green tripe since it seemed the most likely product to contain tapeworm.
Should I decide to feed green tripe again, how often can I worm Lear for tapeworm? I used praziquantel, which after researching, found it to be the meds vets prescribe, which can now be bought over the counter, FDA approved.

Sandy , I can understand your concern, worms make me sick to think about too
I remember a show on Oprah with that doctor she has on often, and he was saying that the best way to tell for humans that if you wanted to know if you have worms put tape at night before you go to bed over your anus and in the morning the evidence should be stuck on the tape.I know it sounds repulsive but i did it on a puppy to see if it would be the same and it worked! Anyway not a pretty picture and I was glad that the puppy did not even try to take it off over night but my thought is I don't know that on a adult dog it would not take the tape off.On a puppy it was small and not so scary but as I think of it , on a adult dog it might be scary to look at the tape in the morning.Anyway that was a method that did not involve meds or vet just to find out IF your dog has worms..
I , every 6 months take my dog's fecal for examination to the vet.

It was not duct because I was afraid when it came the time to pull..I used the tape(don't know the name) that is beige in color, easy to come off.I took the chance with it ,it was an experiment so I was not concern too much but that type of tape worked. And it was easy to see on it,and take off.

Ah ok. It was masking tape. I'll have to try it on my dog just to see if there is anything. I don't know if it will stay though.

I have never seen smelled nor handled tripe, but it sounds really sick and its a wonder any of you bother when theres perfectly happy healthy dogs out there that are as clueless about tripe as I am
Dog people are weird :P
SOOoooo weird.
Update. My honey was at the butcher today and called to see if I needed anything. I told him to see if my order was ready and YES! Sent him as my guinea pig to look at the barrels. OH dear. Even he--iron stomach couldn't deal. The gal and the guy at the butcher were laughing...apparently, when they butcher the cow, they splice VERY carefully to "drop the sac" of innards so it doesn't pop open.
So there you have it...no wonder it's free. You gotta not only pop the entire sac, but then fish around in that ol' barrel to find the stomach youre looking for...then haul it off somehow...I'm going to greentripe.com, or where ever. I"m not as "hardcore" as I thought I might be...

I guess it's worth the $6.50 they charge for 5lb?
Your hubby should have worn a full body covering and mask...

I went to the slaughterhouse today to see about their organ leftovers. I got pretty much the same "I kill on Monday....you can dig through the barrel if you want it." I wish everyone could've seen his face when I told him how much stupid dog people pay for green tripe. He said, "Hell, I pay $45 to have it hauled off."
If I had the website saavy and knew how to get the word out I'd start my own raw food business. That would be FUN.
