Mr Ferguson,
Posts are Crossing each other here by the look of it. But why are you using Capitol Letters for a post. Over this side of the Ocean it is a sign that the person Posting is Angry with another poster, and since you are an expert, why on earth are you asking some members on here for advice,
and by there prior postings they do know what they are talking about, people like Howard Knauf,Mike West, and Carol Boche
I am not an expert by any means with GSDs but i do know a little about Dogs having owned them for 30 years plus other animals and to lose ones cool, the dog or even a bird will pick up on it
Perhaps you yourself get frustrated when your dog plays up and he picks up on it and it makes him worse. Just a thought

I KNOW SOME GUYS AROUND THIS AREA THAT DON'T LET PEOPLE GET NEAR THERE DOGS.HELL THOSE DOGS ARE DUMBASSES CAN'T TRUST THEM AT ALL.IF YOU WALK BY THEM THEY WANT TO RIP YOU APART.
JERRY
Jerry,
Please, explain to me why "THOSE DOGS ARE DUMBASSES" because there hander trained them to be protective of their area? Sounds like a good plan to me. Why cant the dogs be trusted? Have you seen the dog run off and ignore commands? These are simple questions that i was wondering about.
As far as people coming up and petting your dog in the truck or out of the truck that doesn't matter to me really. Its a bad idea all around. Now if your dog is only detection then i honestly don't think its a problem but if he is duel purpose then its dangerous and well in my eyes people lose respect for the patrol side of the dog if they can come up and pet it.
I'll tell you one thing i wish i never ask for any help.People think either my dog has bad lines, or what kind of handler i'm? Or is he a psd? HE IS!! Or being told how this is a no BS zone by The EXPERT howard knauk??? All i did is ask a QUESTION to get some answers to why i was having a problem.I thought i would just ask what people thought here. I'll just stick with POLICE K9 HANDLERS THAT ARE VERY WELL KNOWN.
To tell you the truth i am not even a Police K9 Handler and i am deffently not well known. But i am a Military Working Dog Handler and yup you guessed it still not well known :-D. But i do belive i hold respect from the people i work with when it comes to how to train a dog and how to work a dog.
This board is one of the best sources of information i have come across yet. And you are burning a lot of bridges here. Yes, this is a BS free zone. He called you out on your dogs blood lines. I still haven't seen any names. I am not saying you where lieing, i don't even believe Howard Knauf was calling you a lier. It just dosn't sound good when you dog comes from "THE BEST"
People where questioning you because they needed more details about the problem. Its as simple as that.

I knew a Howard Knauk, but he wasn't a tenth of the dog trainer Howard Knauf is. Geez, some people are just a little too touchy.

Will
I just asked a simple question? And i get what are my dog lines? He shouldn't be friendly to people. Do you have him crated? And when i said the best lines. I guess i should have said he has some of the top lines in him so people wouldn't have a heart attack. And no one ever did answer my question except MATT. So i'll just leave it like that and go on. And won't ask another question.I just thought someone might know here. I'll just ask some of my other k9 buddies since my dog just started doing it.
take care

Hey Jerry,
I think I know why people were asking about the crate.
If your dog is acting up and getting into a tizzy while you are driving along, it could be from excitement at seeing everything going whizzing past.
If this is so, and your dog is in a crate, you might try a crate cover while your car is in motion.
If the dog is not in a crate, a crate cover would not be a good suggestion.
About acting up when the hatch is down, I don't know. Maybe because he's seeing it as a closed door. People coming to a closed door are possible intruders. Door open, people are visitors? Dunno, I am not a trainer, and I can't offer any suggestions about using an Ecollar because I have never used one.
