Now that I think about it, she did get 2 vaccines on Monday...I wonder if that in combination with the previous round of antibiotics made her "relapse" because of a weak tummy. Yikes! How do you think I should proceed now if that's the case, do homecooking for awhile?
I really can't beleive the vet would give the dog shots so close to an illness It is not the tummy I would be worried about but the shock to an already shocked immune system.
I also think the dog has some kind of gut infection. Did you know that antibiotics given to cure Giardia are successfull only 60-70% on the first try? It can be very dificult to diagnose giardia as well as it is not always constantly being shed in fecals.
Bland diet, for a while I am afraid, hopefully that helps, but you may need another round of drugs eventually
Like Connie said, I would be shopping around for another vet! There are some great ones out there!!
Yeah I am not planning on going back for more, I have started to do a lot of research in that area too...
My poor baby! I think I will go the boiled chicken and rice route, although she is chowing on some pork necks right now since that's all I had to give her. I will get the chicken out of the freezer.
Yeah probably the vets don't even think twice giving the vaccines since they are so obsessed with them and they blame everything on the raw diet! The first go round we had panacur just in case (deworming, even though she is on heartworm preventative) and some sulfate thing. Now we have the methro. I don't know which one is for coccidia and which is for giardia. She was totally fine for almost 3 weeks though, so it's upsetting to think that it's back I just want to do what's best for my baby.

Just so that you kno, pork if not cooked properly has tons of tapeworm larvae in it...so raw pork is not a good idea...i dont feed my dogs pork at all!
i read about it a while ago..and tapeworm does upset the stomach.
have u seen any type of worms in the stool?
She doesn't have any worms, but I have read that pork is safe to feed. I know many people who do it. It is human quality meat and it's been tested. Can anyone else comment on this? I am on a few raw feeding forums and most people feed pork.

What I've learned from the long-time experienced raw feeders on this site is that human-grade pork is safe to feed. Some find it too rich or fatty so they feed it less frequently than chicken. I've fed my dog pork riblets...which he loves.

I may start feeding less, who knows what is causing her tummy issues but pork necks are a stape right along with chicken b/c they are cheap. So maybe it is the fattiness that is contributing to the problem. Eeek!
Well I woke up early and boiled some chicken and rice, she ate all the chicken and most of the rice. Tonight we'll have the same. I am on the hunt for a more alternative style vet in Asheville, NC so if anyone knows of one-speak up
I have started feeding raw to my dogs also. One of the adults just can't take it. The other one has thrived on it and my puppy is proving to be a little difficult with it. I think the previous comments are part and parcel of what's going on with the pup. The first time she got diahrrea it was on chicken only. The second time it was after eating pork. I think the chicken had to much skin with it, and the pork had to much fat in one area of the piece I gave her. I'm going to try without skin and as little fat as I can on the red meat.
