Yes, frozen blueberries. He loves them. Hope we don't find something negative down the road about blueberries. I just basically try to really limit fruits of any kind, since I feel so unsure about them.

Can't remember why, but dogs are not the only species affected by avocado. I have parakeets, and even the tiniest amount of it will kill them. Wonder if it's the same principle in a smaller body, or a different component.

My stupid computer keeps freezing and won't open that link. I'll get it later. I think, if I remember correctly from my bird research (like, over 10years ago...why won't the damn things die in 3 years like everyone else's ) that some avocados are ok, or some parts are ok, but to be on the safe side, the advice is don't feed them at all. Hmmm, now I'm curious...
As far as the dogs, I use baby carrots for snacks...please, let's not find out that they're bad, too. I had a scare w/my Peke and grapes. His breath smelled sweet when I got home from an errand, and I asked the neighbor girl (who I allowed to play with him while I was gone) what she'd fed him. I finally got it out of her that she'd fed him grapes. I freaked, she cried, and said he only had 2. He was fine, but what a horrible scare. She was sobbing, terrified that she'd killed her favorite dog. So scary what is deadly and how few people (mainstream) know about it!

I limit high-sugar foods, because of the dogs' systems being carb-unfriendly, but also because of the cancer-feeding aspect of sugars.
So I limit fruits to the low-sugar ones.
Blueberries not only fall into that category, but I watched timber wolves eating them (even in times of plentiful prey) in a UC Gray Wolf Study (long-distance videos).
I feel pretty good about blueberries for a treat. Mine love them frozen.
Of course, I don't give any fruit by the handful. :>

Thanks Connie, for telling me about the wolves eating blueberries. That eases my mind. I've never seen any negative effect except when once I knew I had given too much. He got a wee bit um, runny.
Do you know anything about blackberries being ok? I use them a lot and would like to give some to Lear as a treat sometimes. They're pretty low in sugar I think (some are actually a bit sour). I don't think he cares if they're a little sour, as he licked a used lemon and wanted more. Guess dogs don't have taste buds for detecting sour?

I give any berries I have. Real berries.... not gooseberries (citrus) or what the Aussies call kiwi fruit (kiwi-berries).
I have one who loves sour, even though he makes a terrible face the whole time he's chewing, and one who won't even lick something sour.

No. He's far too dignified to make faces.

Maybe we can all make a point of telling a fellow dog-owner (and toss in avocados and apple pips, too, because I find that some people don't know about their toxicity to dogs yet).
It's so tragic that this information is not wide-spread.
I never heard the apple thing before. My dogs often steal an apple out of the horses' feed pans. How much do they need to be toxic?? They also sometimes grab one that has fallen from the tree... all I have ever noticed though is some really nasty gas.
Is this something where it would be wise to get rid of the apple tree?
Thanks Connie for the heads up!
