I have to say that the ropes on my orbees weren't nearly as long as how it sounds they're supposed to be. Not enough rope (after the rope comes out) to tie 2 knots on the outside of the orbee like Steven's pic shows.
The photo in Steven's post is one I took of my Orbee. That is the rope that came with the ball.
For the poster that said their dog pulls so hard it cuts the ball when tied like that, I have to ask what kind of dog do you have?
I have been using the ball in that photo for over 2 years with many of our high drive VERY strong dogs and that same ball and rope are still intact. The rope may be a bit frayed from some tooth contact but other than that it's really in great shape.
I agree with Cindy. The last time I put a rope on my dogs Orbee, it had lasted months with no damage. Then my sis watched my dog on a weekend and tossed her Orbee in her crate. Well the rope was destroyed and all the orange coloring was ripped off the ball. Now the Orbee is all white, but with a new rope and a lecture to my sis on how dogs don't have toys, it should last a long time again.
My GSD has done the same thing. He is about 90 lbs. but has pulled hard enough on the ball that it creates a tear in the ball and from that point on "it's all over but the shoutin". I have had better luck with a piece of leather for the handle (what I use for the ball dropper vest) and a knot tied at the end of it. The inside has a washer on it so it can't pull through and "presto no tear". I don't stick the leather through both holes because this is what causes the tear. On my other ball (the one with the tear) I replaced the rope that it came with, with a piece of rope that a climber would use.
