Thanks Steve. The problem with all of the ones I can find is that while no metal touches the skin when she's standing, the buckles are all chrome and if she lies down, she's lying on the buckle. Debbie Bruce is having some made for her special and we're gonna see how those work. The Leerburg agitation collar is ok for tie-outs, but now I need an "around the house" collar. Thanks to everyone who tried to help!
Jenni, show us what you end up getting. It's unbelievable how allergic she is to metal and how much damage it did to her. I can see why you were sick about it.
I also have an allergy to any metal other than gold touching my skin. I get those awful bumps and they itch like crazy. Makes it hard to buy jewelry, since I have to buy gold if I want to wear it for any length of time . I was going to suggest getting a gold buckle on her collar but didn't figure that would work too well, strength-wise and financially.
I sometimes have problems w/"cheap" metals including rivets on jeans. I break out and get itchy bumps, but nothing like poor Madame Mia. Her belly was red and blotchy yesterday, and I think it's from the grass, so she definitely has some underlying issues going on. I wondered if it was fabric softener, but she slept in bed w/me last night, and her skin was fine this morning, ruling that out. Could it be my rug? I dunno, but I'm starting to write things down to figure it out.
I actually considered rhodium plating her hardware at a jewelers. Or maybe even buying a kit to do it myself, so that her hardware would, in effect, be white gold. (There's no such thing as white gold; it's whitish/light yellow that's rhodium plated). That's an option if Debbie's generosity doesn't pay off. Right now, I'm using a cotton rope/noose to take her outside with, or just letting her loose in back. She looks terrible; if she was someone else's dog, I'd swear they did something to her. They nylon thing is really odd; just reinforces in my mind that there's a serious auto-immune issue brewing under there. Luckily, none of things seem to bother her and she's all smiles, as usual. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d33/Jenwilliams918/mackinac-mia10-7-07005.jpg
She has 3 or 4 different ones, all with matching leashes, naturally. Also, my rug is olefin, synthetic, so I'm wondering if it's a synthetic issue. I have put several different collars on her and seen the same redness, which is why I always take them off when we're back from our walk. So no, I think it's the nylon itself, and not any residue.
