What is the first thing you do when you get up in the morning? Let the dog out?? WRONG!!!
My dogs know I will let them out when I am good and ready to let them out. Not before. (within reason, of course). I wake up, putter around, eat breakfast, etc... THEN my dogs get to come out of their crates. And only if they are laying quietly.
This way they don't associate me waking up = them getting out. Many times I will get up and putter around and my dogs don't even open their eyes.
Guess what?? On Saturdays, everyone sleeps in. (And I have a dog with a litter of 6 week old pups. They sleep in too).
Edit: just noticed Yusrie said the same thing too.

It took me a while to realize -- duh -- that I was rewarding a new adoptee by getting up when he made early-morning noise around my bed.
I spent two weeks feigning sleep and ignoring him until he realized that it didn't work, and he gave it up. Now he knows exactly what time I DO get up and is waiting (silently) by the bed at the correct time.
