I feed raw now, but in the past I have fed a lot of foods. I like Canidae the best, followed by Wellness products.
Here is my order of preference:
1. Raw
2. Honest Kitchen
3. Wellness Core or comparable grain-free kibble

I think Orijen is very similar to Timberwolf Orgaincs. They have two formulas w/no grains-Wild and Natural Dry and Ocean Blue. I have gotten about 20 or so dogs on this stuff who belong to owners unwilling to feed raw, and they're all doing beautifully. It's similar to Evo, but the longterm results are waaay better. While Canidae is probably the best FOR THE MONEY, it still has way too much grain for me to even consider it. Yes, it's better than Nutro & such, but still, it's grainy.

Hello Jenni
Yes' i think it is. I feed the Orijen Meat kibble 75% and the other 25% i feed the Orijen Fish Kibble. This is to Fred the 11 month old G.S Pup.
To the 4 month old Goran G.S Pup i feed the Orijen Large breed Puppy kibble. and once he goes off this Puppy diet, i will feed both Dogs the same food, But when is it best, or i should say at what age to change him from the Puppy Food, there are differnt views on this at the dog club so really a person is none the wiser.

My pups have always eaten the adult Orijen. I am pretty sure that Adult Orijen and Large Breed Pupppy Orijen is identical, but packaged differently so people don't feed regular puppy orijen to their large breed pups.
When I fed Natures Variety Raw Instinct, they dont even differentiate between dog size or age. With the raw diet, you don't differentiate between puppy vs adult either other than in feeding quantity.

Hi Mike
Have looked at the componants of both Adult Orijen and Large breed Puppy Kibble, you are right there is very little differences that i can see in it, So when i purchase in the next few days i can get Adult Meat and the Fish Orijen kibble the same for both Pups,
Goran the Baby also likes Raw flesh according to the amount he takes off my fingers when i give him a bit by hand

Hi Sue
I was told that there should be some protiens your dog never gets, for example duck or venison, just in case he ever develops allergies you have something to switch him to.
My personal, unscientifically based preference is to switch foods every 4-6 months (if on kibble - raw feeders switch all the time). I normally feed the proteins of beef, chicken, turkey, and lamb. I do not feed fish protein to my dogs because that is my "fall-back" in case of allergies. I did have a dog develop an allergy to chicken, so he ate (alternatively) the fish and the lamb Wellness kibble, and still does - he is doing very well on them.

I don't understand something. I've switched to all natural kibble and no longer give rawhide bones to my dogs. People on this forum know a heck of a lot more than I do. That being said, I used to feed Pedigree and give rawhide to all my dogs over the past 40 years. My last Rott lived until he was 12 years old and wasn't sick a day in his life. He had a beautiful coat and looked younger than his years. What gives!
