One of our PSD's got a bite about 2 weeks ago. Still in the hospital and 7 surgeries later here's this smart guys story.
This was a KNPV trained dog, so you know where the high flyer goes, well, he fought the suspect down in a dry ravine which had thorn bushes and briars everywhere, there was amazingly no upperbody bites. The suspect fought the dog hard, in the end he lost big time. When we arrived to take him into custody, he was throwing fast, energetic punches everywhere (very high). Long story short, he is still in the hospital, and had both thighs torn open, one look like an axe split it open to the bone, large chunks gone from both calfs, one foot crushed, the other had several broken bones, and had a toe reattached, both achilles tendons were bit through and torn.
This guy was punching the crap out of the dog in the head, so the dog would very quickly reengage to a different location, he'd give 3-4 hard whacks closed fist to the dogs ear and head and he'd simply retarget. Due to this guys combativeness the dog wasn't called off until he was finally cuffed, also to note this was an off lead area search bite, so the dog was working on him alone for a moment while we got up to them. By the time we got the guy cuffed he was screaming in pain, I guess he should have listened when we told him stop fighting the dog, quit resisting, and above all to come out or we were sending in the dog. Legs can be just as effective, just ask this clown
but nevertheless the dog should take what he can get, not window shop for what he wants or thinks he should get.
What do you think this guy will do next time he hears, "Police Department K9, come out or the dog will be sent to find you and he will bite you!"

Good story Chris!
I dread to think what would happen to the dog if that incident happened here.....
Got any vacancies?

Vacancies, yep we sure do have some. Not to mention, this story didn't even get newspaper or tv coverage. Gotta love the south. The courts have said, if a dog is justifiably sent what happens is the fault of the perp, and the dog is not deadly force even if the perp dies from his injuries, which is BTW extremely rare.
That whole situation could have been avoided, by coming out first, but after the dog was on him all he had to do was yell I give up and stop punching the dog, he never said he gave up, never said get the dog off, he just wanted to fight him and us. Totally brought all that damage on himself.

Unbelievable. And you guys have cheap gas, handguns, good education system, proper private healthcare, good civil rights, and a fairly good justice system.
Why am I still in the UK again?
(Just a shame you can't make proper sports cars yet )
