Allergies are funny that way. I recall sitting through a rather bad scratch test for myself and being told under absolutely no conditions can I be around rabbits. When I asked why they said odds are the reaction would be so bad I'd likely lose the ability to breathe in less than 5 minutes. I sat and thought about that a moment because one of the most common methods of treating severe allergies like bee stings is slow increasing exposure buildups. I raised rabbits of various kinds competitively for about 10 years. Towards the end walking by a cage would result in me breaking out in hives.
Immunology is a funny medical field. It's hard to say what really works half the time in treatments and if the reactions are worse than what they are curing.

I'll say.
I get a lot of hearing owners say "Well, it can't be the food, because he has eaten the same food for 5 years."
Such a 100% lack of allergy comprehension! If it was a brand-new food, then you might say "Well, it can't be the food...." The "repeated exposure" thing seems to trip up a lot of people. Feeding the same food for five years with no variety is a perfect way to set the stage for an allergy to that one protein.

Think breed type... there are over 45 breeds of rabbits and they vary in use from cute little bunnies, angoras, fur bearing, to dinner bearing. Most I ever had in my bunny barn was about 30.
