Nice looking boy, I'm also glad that you took him in. I do kind of wonder how your going to manage keeping him without the owners knowing that you have him. It could be a very awkward situation should they go looking for their dog and find him at your place.
I do hope your able to keep him, sounds like he's in a much better place with you.
Good Luck,

it's been 3 weeks, they have not looked for him once.
plus, i think i am moving soon, hopefully by the end of the month.
but yeah, the guy that owns him wants to leave his girlfriend, and the place he was going to live wouldn't let him have 2 dogs, and he wants his female(to breed, obviously), and the girlfriend never wanted the dogs anyway, and the kids weren't allowed into the back yard where the dogs were kept.
So they haven't looked for him, plus, i think they think that Animal Control got him, animal control was out there before christmas because Capone kept getting loose and roaming, and told him that they would take him next time.
I know that he would be slapped with huge fines, for having an unlicensed intact dog, plus the kenneling costs, and they can't pay that.
so if anything, i can easily say animal control picked him up, and i went there and adopted him.

Im sure its safe now, alot of people have it done when the dog is still a puppy and I dont know of any adverse reactions except from guys... no offense to anyone. this leads me to a story, I was volunteering at the local "humane" society when I learned that some of the guys who work there have adopted animals (from there) but wont have them neutered because they think the dog will feel stripped of his manhood and now that theyve adopted him theres no need for those precautions, heh?!

i know it can be done earlier, all my others were done as pups. But after reading up here, it is better to wait.
Yeah, i have met several guys who think their dog will get depressed, and actually miss "them".....it's silly.
Plus, many dont actually understand the procedure, they think you actually "chop it off", and other horrific things like that.

There are tons of threads on the downsides if you do a search...however, I think Capone is probably full-grown, as he's not a giant breed, and he certainly doesn't need to be having more puppies, esp. if he ends up back w/the neighbors, which I sincerely hope doesn't happen.

I am considering having his ears cropped while he is neutered. I love natural ears on a pit, as long as they are semi prick, not his ears.... i know thats a total personal cosmetic thing.
My vet will do it, i already asked.
Who has a dog with cropped ears here, and what can i expect?
I know they are a lot of work and lots of follow ups at the vet, but pits ears don't stand, so it's not so bad afterwards for them.

EEK. Mallory, I would not do this. Very few vets are any good at it anyway, and it is MUCH harder to make them stand the older they get. The poor guy has been through enough; you want him to have to deal with this too??? It's too painful when their ears have thickened, and it takes waaaay longer to train them to stand, if they ever will, unless you do a really short "battle crop"....
So, while I like a nicely cropped Pit, (he looks a bit AB-ish to me in his standing pic, and they have natural ears...) I would not do this to him at this point. JMO.
