Perhaps, of the other two Narc dogs you could use some ditch weed and run an experiment to see if they indicate on it. The other two may not have the age or experience that Allen has but at least you would have a better idea of what odors the dog/s are picking up and interpreting.

Hm... that doesnt sound like a bad idea... i was planning on setting up joint training after the new guys get here so they can network with the other nationality's now i just need to find some more ditch weed in the next week or two.. might just have to go hit up the same spot to grab some..
You may want to cue into the subtleties of the alert. My (limited) experience has been that when the dog encounters a slightly different scent than what they have been trained on (my most recent one was with some 400+ year old human bones) they may alert but there is a kind of tentativeness and unsureness to the alert vs. the solid, fast, hard alert with a more confident body posture.

Yeah thats one thing i have been dealing with when going through farms it deffently has been a interesting challenge working though all the new odors and seeing the different body positioning.
When he came to the Ditch Weed he gave me all the same clues through his body language and the final response that he found real drugs.
All in all i am happy he responded the way he did considering ditch weed is weed just a low quality of it. When Allan gets back to Italy i am confident he will still be able to find small amounts and big amounts regardless of the quality (quality of the drug is something that has always worried me when it comes to training vs real finds)
If I'm reading this correctly then your concern is that your dog might give a positive indication on plain hay, clean of any target odor? If that's the case then this is just a training issue, all you will need to do is proof the dog's training.
My concern is that ditch weed is mixed in with hay all over the place. And if we are looking for narcotics (other then ditch weed) then each time we find contaminated hay we don't know if there is hidden narcotics or just the ditch weed.
Test it. If it's positve for marijuana, then you really don't want to proof. If it's negative for marijuana, then proof off of it.
