Thanks Lynne, that saved me some time! Also, this is the link to the video Lynne mentioned:
http://leerburg.com/308.htm
You'll learn a lot just from the streaming video available here, but purchasing the actual video would be a wonderful idea too, IMO.

The whole pack leader thing - this is where I personally suffer some frustration and dissapointment. I do have a strong personality and I really felt like I had done what needed to be done to be sure this dog knew her place. However that's neither here nor there, what we have now is what it is and this is where we have to move forward from.
What you just said could have been uttered from my mouth!
But the great thing is that dogs live in the present, and you can correct the things that you may be doing(or not doing) regarding pack structure and see the benefits immmediately...

Thank you all for the links, they were helpful if somewhat heart rending. I know it doesn't really matter but a thought keeps swirling around my head - my parents and grandparents never had these kind of issues with dogs, they just seemed to 'know' that they couldn't behave a certain way ya know? I mean, this is a dog for goodness sakes, not rocket science! I'll continue to work with her and continue to read these links in the end it's gonna be all about trust. Can I trust MYSELF to do what needs to be done consistantly enough, can I trust that any training I obtain will help to safe guard my children, will I ever feel comfortable enough with this dog to even train her properly and allow for her to even have a fair chance? We'll see... Thank you again for all your time and your replies...

Just wishing you the best of luck with your dog. I hope you get it all resolved. I would hate to be in your position myself.

Howard Burgess is SO not the let's love them more type of guy and I am working on the assumption that anyone he would reccomend is along the same line as himself ya know? I'm not the 'let's love them more' type of person so that's not really an issue in my house. Howard comes highly reccomended by cheryl Carlson (if you know who she is) chercarkennels.com I think is her website and I've met her and she's a no nonesense type of woman herself. I understand your concern though... and thank you.
Sarah
For everyone; if Sarah is getting help from these folks, we have nothing to worry about! La creme de la creme when it comes to Pits and this kind of thing! Good luck and keep us posted, Sarah!

Sarah
I will say this If your not comfortable with the breed in general.
I think you should find this guy a new home maybe i am miss understanding but that is what I am getting. But I will say from what little experience I have. It is not the breed it is the owner.
Sorry if this seems rood But that is how I look at it.

Nope I agree and I'm not uncomfortable with the breed, I have a deep fondess for them - this is IMO stictly a dog issue that could have happened with any breed. My FIL got bit pretty good by their golden retriever, my aunt has a cocker spaniel I won't let my kids within ten feet of. My cousin has a german shepard that is soo unbalanced I think she's a lawsuit waiting to happen and you're right in everyone of those case's there have been issues ranging from situational (my MIL had a brain anuerysm just after they got their golden and he didn't get the training/socialization he would have gotten like prior dogs in their home) to just plain insanity such as my aunt and her cocker. So I freely admit I've made mistakes, and if I remain uncomfortable it won't be because she's a pit, it will be because of my own lackings as the owner and concern for my children - does that make sense?

Yes, very good sense.
With this site you will learn a lot.
I have APBT also and this site has helped me a lot.
I know more about the puppy stage so I can't help much.
But you will get a lot of help

The dog bit your kid. Do yourself and your child a favor and get rid of it. I'll tell you one thing, If one of mine did that it would never do it again.

My boy Cujo used to try and bite people in the face when he was a pup. No warning, no growling, no aggression. He was just excitable. It could be something as stupid as a kid making a funny sound at him.
Your pup is 10 months old and there were no warning signs apparently, so perhaps he was just excited?
Not saying that makes it better, but in the case of my dog, it went away with age.
