I think some of us made this comment before. Balance only exists in humans because we are omnivores. Dogs are carnivores and scavengers. They need to be fed accordingly IMO.
I agree with Connie. If you can read then you should be able to give your dogs the food they need. I think humans always try to over-analize everything. In reality feeding our dogs should not be that hard.
I feed my dogs whole chickens, chicen leg quarters, beef hearts, cottage cheese, some veggies, red meat, etc... Haven't had a problem and they seem to be very healthy.
Definetly thet guy sounds a little arrogant suggesting you don't feed your dog correctly. Sounds to me he's tryingto make an extra buck.

. . . I found a poultry distributor in my area who sells cases of chx neck/back. When I called to order, he started to question me about my feeding, what vitamins, supplements etc. He suggested that I just buy "their" brand of dog food. . . What do you think???
What I always think when I hear something like this is that he stands to make a lot more money if you buy his special dog food. An interest in your dog's balanced diet is probably pretty far down his list of concerns.
These two sites/companies may or may not be related, but here's what he's charging for a 30# box: Dogtown
I'd just stick with what you're doing right now.
BTW, is this the great sports drink that Ed recommends for dogs along with Dog-Wa?
Power Chow 2 (Just kidding, Ed, don't ban me from the board :grin

Wow, and I just paid 69 cents a pound for reasonably balanced whole chickens.

Lucky you ~ Free necks & backs. I'm jealous
I know, I did get lucky! My butcher's a gem. But I wouldn't have gotten anything if I wasn't obnoxious enough to ask! If you know anyone who hunts you can usually get some great selections that way, too.
Congrats on the switch, btw!

I agree with both of you; He will make a heck of a lot more off of me if I spent my money on a product that he makes on the spot and probably has very little overhead. On the other had just buying necks/backs; he has to have them shipped in and won't make as big of a profit.
Mike - The link you sent me, is exactly what he is selling. On that site, it is $45.00 for 30lbs. Now that was with a distributor; It may be a bit cheaper buying direct but $45.00 is more then I want to spend each month. Also, that is for a case of say just chicken chubs, in order for my dog to get the variety that he needs, I would have to buy different varieties which would be more money for me and that's not including having to buy bones.....
I'll stick to what I am doing.
BTW, I was so excited last night , I gave my dog ( a 48lb cocker spaniel ) a whole chicken quarter last and he just chompped it right up like a champ. He did carry around for a while and I began to get a little nervous thinking that he didn't know what to do with it but he took care of it like he's done it 100 times before...
This is day 11 on raw and he is really getting the hang of it.....

My problem is, I can't find a butcher.... I did find a meat (no poultry) butcher that is about an hour away; maybe I'll check with them for scraps...
BTW - Steve & Amber, Your dogs are beautiful...they are two of my favorite large breed dogs. I just don't have the space for a big dog....
