Connie has posted in the past about only clipping one or two toes at a time, so it's over before the dog gets really upset, and treating and praising when it's done.
Granted, full pedicures take a lot longer using this method but I'm much less stressed about it, which is better for the dog. Plus, doing it daily helps make it more routine and less of an "event" for the dog.
I knock 'em out with some iso gas or a frying pan. That'll learn 'em to give me a hard time!
Actually, I do it in the tub at the spa where they are already tied to the tub, and they're kind of in the mindset that the day is already not going well...better to just suck it up and get it over with. I have way more success if I do it at bathtime than if I try to randomly bring out the clippers at home.

LOL! That's actually a good idea, Jenni. He's definitely more passive during bath time.

Whats not fun about a little dog-fu in the backyard?
Try in the house on the floor with the cats chasing (and eating )toe nail bits.

EEEWWWWWW!
Reminds me of the days the farrier would come to the barn I used to ride at - the barn dogs would always hover around to catch and nibble on all the hoof trimmings... I love the smell of horses, hay, barns, even manure is tolerable, but the smell of those horse 'toenail clippings' always made me want to gag...
