Jonah has to sit and wait for his release (from me) to eat. They have always eaten in their crates, so no chance to fight over food.
I think Jonah is just trying to be the leader of the pack, and that is an issue I need to deal with!
I just got the DVD on establishing pack structure...so looks like the timing was perfect. I actually got it because of Delilah, lol!
If you have time try taking all of them out for a walk, run or bike ride. your right about him being the pack leader. right now he has you under control and you need to change that. Good that you have that dvd. Sometimes though you may need to find a trainer because it's not always easy to implement what you read or watch
Okay, it's NOT the food! He did it this morning when I went out to his crate to let him out...I paused for a moment and squatted down to un-hook it and he growled...no food involved. ????
Hi Karla, you have a dog who is taking over the leadership of his territories and will start to overflow to more of the house. If you know of a good trainer in your area I would give him/her a call. Make sure they do free consultation and they demo their own dog, because talk is cheap.
This is a long thread and has evidently changed direction completely, so to clarify:
Your dog is growling and hackling at you when you approach him in his crate?
Hi Connie, yes. At first I thought it was a sudden food aggression, as he growled at me after I had given him his food in the crate....so the next day I tried feeding him out of the crate and he did it again with hackels...last night I tried hand feeding him his first portion...he seemed fine, I gave him the remainder of the bowl in the crate and again...growled. This morning, I went to let him out, and I kneeled down and he growled at me...I didn't let him out...then I went back, he didn't growl, so I let him out and was fine.
Connie, I should probably add that Jonah is in tack. Also he has never shown this type of behavior toward a human being in his life. He has always been a very mellow, happy go lucky boy...
The only aggression I have seen is with my daughters male yorkie, which the yorkie instigates. We now keep them separate, however the yorkie has gone up to his crate and challenged him in the past...could this have something to do with it?
