My kids are 12 and 17...they go to different campuses and their mom determines where they go to school. Believe me, I've tried to think of everything beyond staying where I'm at currently, which has bus service for both schools...it's just too expensive for me to live here and only have them 6 days a month. The last 3 years have been paycheck to paycheck to have a house and a yard for a dog. Now that the custody has been changed it's just too much for me to do any longer, especially in light of how things happened which I won't go into on a public forum, but there was deceit and manipulation of my kids and me at the root of it all. I've got apartment locators looking for me right now and have explained the situation to them in detail...so far, nothing
I have had many emails regarding Brenna from members I know on the board and I'm so honored that you guys/gals would consider taking her...btw, I'm in Houston, Texas...I don't know why that isn't on my profile???
She is all black right? If she is straight-backed, you can say "the shelter I got her from thought she was a lab/husky mix." Just make sure your kids know that your dog is now a "mix breed."
You are saying that you currently live in a house with a yard with your dog, that is in the right district but is too expensive?
I looked on the Houston Craigslist and there seem to be a few people who need room/shared accomodation and are willing to pay between $500 to $750 monthly.
Would that be an option you would consider?
*(Make sure you sign a contract with them and have every agreement written down - I have a tenant now that I thought I would take her in to be nice as she had nowhere to go, but ended up costing me a fortune in increased utilities, taxes, and hassle. But I know of others who say that getting a roommate or tenant was the best decision they made financially.)
yeah, I'm in a rent house, though...I can't sublet it and there are no spare bedrooms here.
Believe me, I'm doing everything I can to find a place. The only other thing I can do is get an additional job(3)but then I'd never be at home except to sleep.
Mike,
Have you checked your local craigslist.org? A lot of people who own places list them there...and they are usually individual landlords who might be more understanding...
btw, Brenna is still available...many inquiries and some people pondering, but she's still here. We just got thru eating and playing fetch in the dark Trying to make as many memories as I can.
she is very pretty - as someone already said, many people don't know about black GSDs - when I take mine in "general public" it is very rare for someone to say "that's a GSD" - the vast majority ask what breed he is, and the guesses are normally "lab X Chow" or "lab X collie" - or "that's a lab mix right?, what's it mixed with?" - it seems only the people actually familier with the breed know it is a GSD (mix?) and sometimes even they do not. I think you could pull off saying your dog is a lab mix - who is going to check her papers?
Bad situation, I know the kids are the main priority but there must be some way you can keep your dog too
